See me for what I really am
discarded and floored
in some house of horrors
which I cannot afford

Rejection in so many guises
a lifetime of no surprises
another holiday abandoned and alone
no season for letting go

In the future will be on my own
in a room, sitting by some unused phone
and if by chance you came here to smile
first suffer through an endless trial

Play me poke me
pull those strings
cut familiar ties
just kiss it all goodbye

I'm sorry I can't find the light
in a happier moment,
buried beneath another lament
with a mindset like cement
