Bisexual Empowerment Conference: A Uniting Supportive Experience

Weąve all been hard at work getting ready for this years BECAUSE. The
conference is rapidly approaching so there is allot going on. The
planning committee is meeting every Sunday except MinneCon (I mean Easter)
between now and BECAUSE (April 25 - 27). Anyone interested in helping to
make this happen should join us at 4pm (til 6pm) at Sabathani Center, 310
38th Street South.

BECAUSE will actually have it's first event on Saturday, April 12th.
There will be a "BECAUSE PREVIEW and FUNdraiser" at Jitters Coffee Bar,
1026 Nicollet Mall starting at 8pm. Jitters offers beer, wine, coffee,
tea, juice and treats. There will be karaoke, games, great people and fun
for all ages. A $5 - $10 sliding scale donation may be made at the door.

The theme for this years BECAUSE is "Body Pride, Body Power" relating to
people having sovereignty over their own bodies.

The conference kicks off on Friday, April 25th at 7pm with the keynote
address delivered by "BI ANY ONTHER NAME: Bisexual People Speak Out"
co-editor Loraine Hutchins. Following the keynote address there will be a
reception and community dance. Friday's events will take place at Coffman
Union on the Uiversity of MN, Minneapolis campus.

Saturday morning check-in will begin at 8:30 on the third froor of Coffman
Union. There will be over 20 different workshops to chose from along with
the "Body Pride, Body Power" plenary session. Saturday evening there will
be a special BECAUSE performance of the Bi&4U Cabaret. Regardless of what
your interests are, there will be something for you at this years
conference.

Sundays activities will include a Potluck Brunch at 10am, more workshops
and a Community Building Plenary session. Because the University is
closed on Sundays these events will take place at Sabathani Community
Center, 310 38th St. South.

If you have any concerns or need assistance with housing or transportation
while in Minneapolis or if you accessibility services or childcare during
the conference please let use know.

Also, there are many opportunities for volunteers to help with
registration, child care, logistics, accessibility... and lots, lots more
so please let us know if you are able to help out during the conference.

The cost for this years BECAUSE has been set at $30 but as always this is
a suggested donation. Please feel free to pay more if you can, or less
depending on your situation. No one will be turned away for finacial
reasons.

BECAUSE is open to people of all sexualities and gender identities who are
interested in bisexuality and gender issues. All conference locations are
fully accessable. Conference materials are materials are available in
braille and large print by request. Interpreters are also be available by
