Wherehouse hit with bias suit                    
              Cal~A gay man who worked at the Wherehouse
Music store in Pleasant Hill, Calif., has filed a lawsuit in the U.S.
district court in San Francisco alleging that he was the target of
antigay bias, the Contra Costa Times reports. Lou Casolari, 33, says his
clothes were called "faggy" and that the district manager told other
employees not to "leave Lou alone in the back room with another guy."

Flawless? Not exactly                        
        The newest film from big-time writer-director Joel
Schumacher, Flawless pits ex–security guard and stroke victim Robert
De Niro against transsexual drag queen and singing teacher Philip
Seymour Hoffman. How's the picture? Far from fabulous, according to The
Hollywood Reporter: "Schumacher, who retreated to the smaller, quieter
project following Batman & Robin and 8mm, reportedly wrote the script in
just three weeks—and it shows. Riddled with one-dimensional
stereotypes, the story seldom rises above its collection of well-worn
cliches to reach for something challenging or inventive."

Lawyer optimistic about marriage
Vermont~The drive to legalize same-sex marriages has Vermont waiting for
a state supreme court ruling that could also breathe life into an effort
in other states to recognize gay and lesbian marriages. "We're very
optimistic that either we're going to win this case or that it will be
sent back to trial," Mary Bonauto, one of the attorneys representing
three gay couples in Vermont seeking a legal marriage, said Saturday.
Her case has pitted gays and lesbians seeking marriage recognition
against the small state, which has said that marriage is a fundamental
right only for those who procreate. For over one year now, the case has
been in the hands of the court, which has given no indication on when it
will rule. But when the ruling does materialize, it could have
widespread ramifications for other gay men and lesbians. Because the
case is predicated entirely on the state constitution, there will be no
U.S. Supreme Court review. The ruling, however, could prompt other
