Occasionally, I post a question to online African American and Muslim
sites, re. the gay issue. I encourage others to do same...to test the
waters, as well as raise people's consciousness. To give you an idea
of what to say to them, here is a message I recently sent to
<www.blacknewsweekly.com>:

---begin message:

Hello. I am looking for [African-American/Muslim] news services that
include articles about the lesbian/gay movement within the
[Black/Muslim] Community, with dignity and respect. A quick glance
through your site, did not reveal any consideration for your own
[black/Muslim] sisters and brothers who are gay. Perhaps I overlooked
them, in which case I request you direct me to them.

What is your stance regarding your gay members of the
[African-American/Muslim] community? Do you intentionally ignore them,
thus keeping them out of the news of your community? Do you know that
Coretta Scot King is very outspoken for gay civil rights, and attends
many national gay gatherings? Or do you selectively quote Ms. King,
conveniently excluding anything she says about gay people?

---end of message

I have yet to receive a response. In fact, I have never received any
response from any of the several black-oriented news services I have
so far posted too. But if I ever do, I'll let you know!
