The Morar chat client has now entered open beta testing. I've been
using the alpha version for months and it is very stable. Grab it

This is looking like another dead end too... It might be just a
problem on my system.. it has grown a wee bit unstable in the past few
days., but testing out bleeding the bleeding edge version of KDE just
might be the problem. :P
but given is hands at the database part i have a feeling it is withing
the program code itself and not my system.

Let the author know on his forum. He is very attentive to issues.
Although it should be compatible with any java engine, he develops
under SunJava, so check that you are launching under that. My Ubuntu
has OpenJDK installed by default
