Dear GAWL Members,
We are looking for a speaker to discuss land-lord tenant law in February at the Metro Transition Center for our Know Your Rights series! It’s an informative but relaxed session where the speaker will essentially answer people’s questions regarding landlord tenant law. For those unfamiliar with the program, it is intended to provide substantive and informative presentations on legal topics that will affect participants of the Metro Transitional Center post-release. We are always looking for presenters that can speak to the basics of areas of the law such as family law/child custody, landlord-tenant rights, criminal record expungement, and more. The guidance and legal knowledge given to these participants helps them transition post-release and, in turn, reduces their chances of being reincarcerated.
As of now, we are looking for a volunteer to provide a 1 hr presentation on landlord-tenant law topics including disclosing a criminal record on a rental application, anti discrimination for housing laws, and eviction. This presentation will take place at 6:30 pm at the MetroTransitional Center located at 1303 Constitution Rd SE, Atlanta, GA 30316. A representative from the Public Affairs Committee will be in charge of coordinating the event and will also be present at the event to assist with the logistics. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to coordinate a date. Also, if you have another topic and would like to present in the future, we would also love to hear from you! We’ve traditionally presented on the above topics but any and all ideas are welcome. Thank you all for your consideration and dedicated time!
Best, GAWL Public Affairs Committee
