Good day everyone

Milly Siebrits  is investigating the feasibility of a national insurance policy which would contain public liability cover for the use of Sea Scout assets such as the type of small boats which we all use, such as sailing dinghy's kayaks and canoes, gigs and Saldahna's, and small keel boats. This is distinct from actual cover for the asset such as replacement costs or such like. The cover we are referring to would probably be  separate  clauses in the group policy if they have public liability cover as well. We also need to know if there are any stipulations regarding who uses the asset an if there are any limits and parameters specified.

It is proving to be a challenge. There are rumours that some Groups have such cover for their boat assets. In an effort to find  out if in fact this is true and to get an indication of the policy wording and which insurers may be offering such insurance, please can you as a matter of urgency ask your Group Committees if they can determine if they have such public liability cover included in their policies.

Jan Schubart who is tasked with this exercise, has assured me that any information will be strictly confidential, and the information we correlate from this inquiry and research will not reflect any group names or company names which may be used in future policy negotiations.

Insurance in the marine world is an expensive and complex business and a possible outcome of this exercise would be  a recommendation and offer for a  policy which is not based on individual groups, but which is based on at least a SSA Regional or National asset base, which in all likelihood could reduce the premium payments for the groups.

I look forward to your timeous response so that we can close this exposure to potential very expensive claims against SSA, and the legal defense costs for defense of such claims.

Rgds
