Hi All
Safe Scouting is being updated and there is a new format that now has a “practice note” defining how adventurous activities such as boating are conducted. There are quite a few updates, which I will highlight to everyone after the document is ratified.
But, as members of the WAC, I would like your opinion on this clause:

Obviously we have no published requirement at the moment.
My feeling is that a manned rescue craft is not required for flat water dams. All the dams we normally use are small and the entire water body can be monitored. Also, scouts in trouble are likely to be blown ashore in a short time.
For special inland waters, I would suggest an all-weather rescue vessel must be mandated. This does not need to be a scout owned or operated vessel.
Please let me know if you agree.
I would like to know the status of NSRI on harties if anyone has recent knowledge
