There are a few different ways! You can participate in an Immersion by checking out the dates and topics in the section below and applying through the online portal. Once you have participated in an Immersion, you can apply to facilitate one yourself! The application for facilitators will be sent out in early September and again in mid-March, so keep an eye out! The program recruits for new facilitators one semester before the experience. You can always reach out to imme...@rollins.edu with any questions about the program!

Staffan Björk and Jussi Holopainen, in Patterns In Game Design,[2] divide immersion into similar categories, but call them sensory-motoric immersion, cognitive immersion and emotional immersion, respectively. In addition to these, they add a new category: spatial immersion, which occurs when a player feels the simulated world is perceptually convincing. The player feels that he or she is really "there" and that a simulated world looks and feels "real".

Virtual reality glasses can produce a visceral feeling of being in a simulated world, a form of spatial immersion called Presence. According to Oculus VR, the technology requirements to achieve this visceral reaction are low-latency and precise tracking of movements.[6][7][8]

Immersive virtual reality is a hypothetical future technology that exists today as virtual reality art projects, for the most part.[36] It consists of immersion in an artificial environment where the user feels just as immersed as they usually feel in everyday life.

To create a sense of full immersion, the 5 senses (sight, sound, touch, smell, taste) must perceive the digital environment to be physically real. Immersive technology can perceptually fool the senses through:

Other examples of immersion technology include physical environment / immersive space with surrounding digital projections and sound such as the CAVE, and the use of virtual reality headsets for viewing movies, with head-tracking and computer control of the image presented, so that the viewer appears to be inside the scene. The next generation is VIRTSIM, which achieves total immersion through motion capture and wireless head mounted displays for teams of up to thirteen immersants enabling natural movement through space and interaction in both the virtual and physical space simultaneously.

At UW-Eau Claire, finding opportunities to break out of your comfort zone and discover something new are not hard to come by. And one of the many ways you can explore the world around you is through immersion programs.

Immersion experiences offer you the affordable opportunity chance to travel near and far, exploring history and community alongside your peers and faculty. The conversations that come from these incredible learning experiences help students identify the connection between what is going on in the world around them and the role that they will play in society. From criminal justice, music, and art to nursing, business, journalism, and more, every major can benefit from participating in an immersion experience.

Before the registration period ends the semester prior, the faculty members leading each immersion course will send to all students the description of the immersion courses, along with instructions on how students can apply for the immersion course that interests them. Students interested in participating in an immersion course should look out for these emails from the faculty and apply accordingly.

The elementary instructional day is split so that students spend 150 minutes with their Chinese or Spanish language teacher and another 150 minutes with their English teacher. The Immersion-language teacher is responsible for teaching math, science, and Language Arts in the immersion language. The English language teacher teaches English Language Arts as well as social studies standards and concepts from the Delaware Recommended Curriculum. They also reinforce math and science content by planning collaboratively with their partner teacher. Dual Language Immersion students follow the same standards-based curriculum in all content areas that non-immersion students follow in the non-immersion classrooms in the school.

All districts with Elementary Dual Language Immersion Programs have identified an uninterrupted K-12 Immersion pathway for students to continuously build toward advanced-level language proficiency. In the middle school, students take at least two courses per grade in the immersion language - advanced Chinese or Spanish language arts and the grade-level social studies course taught in the immersion language. In high school, immersion students are well-positioned to take the AP Chinese or AP Spanish course in 9th grade and then participate in dual-enrollment/dual-credit courses with local universities.

Studying at University Carlos III of Madrid for a year allowed me to have a completely different academic experience each semester. My fall semester was a Hispanic studies program aimed at international students. In the spring, I'm doing an immersion and almost all my classmates are Spaniards (although I have the opportunity to take classes in English). I love that! All the professors are friendly, which is something new for me since my university classes at home are so big they barely get to know your name. They are also very passionate about their courses which makes it very interesting and enjoyable.

Tickets are sold for 1-hour, on-the-hour time slots: you will select your day specific time slot at check out.

World renowned Dutch horticulturist, Ibo Gülsen, sets up a week-long immersion experience, taking travelers through the history of the tulip, from its origins in Turkey, to the Netherlands, and finally to the small-town community of Holland, Michigan. Gülsen will use 65,000 tulips of all varieties and colors to craft an experience that brings the tulips up to eye-level and create Instagrammable photo opportunities for friends and family alike.

MCPS offers immersion programs in three target languages at seven schools. Partial instruction in Chinese, and full instruction in both French and Spanish. Students may begin in Kindergarten and can continue through Grade 8. Some immersion programs are based on geographic location and/or give preference to local school students.

Current grade 5 immersion students will complete a Notice of Intent form to continue to the middle school immersion program. DCCAPS emailed the Notice of Intent forms in December 2022. The deadline to return the Notice of Intent form was early January 2023.

Your Proficiency Index Score (P-Index Score) may impact your admission status, enrollment in the immersion programs and enrollment at the college. Please be aware of the following enrollment requirements:

Have a proficiency index score in mathematics between 50 and 59, and who have a proficiency index score in English of 64 or below should enroll in mathematics or English in CSI's free Summer or Winter Immersion Programs and take a co-requisite developmental course during the semester following immersion. It is recommended that students do NOT enroll in two co-requisite developmental courses during the same semester.

The immersion programs consist of classes that do not carry any college-level credit. At the end of the immersion program, you will receive a grade indicating whether you have demonstrated basic proficiency in the area for which you have received instruction.

Classes begin the first week of January for Winter Immersion, and a variety of immersion classes are offered throughout the summer. Please click on either Winter or Summer Immersion links for specific information regarding schedules.

There is no "typical" day on the immersion program. The experience will vary depending on whether you find yourself in Kentucky repairing homes, in Chicago exploring issues of urban poverty, or in a L'Arche community sharing conversation and companionship. Transportation and accommodations vary by site as well, but usually involve simple living and traveling to such places as soup kitchens, community centers, churches, and schools. By tradition, groups are led by a senior Holy Cross student who, in addition to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for their group, also facilitates daily prayer and reflection throughout the week.

At our school, teachers and support staff are bilingual in Spanish and English, and are knowledgeable in language immersion philosophy and methodology. We are dedicated to using the strategies that research has proven to be most effective in achieving bilingualism, while also meeting state and national learning standards.

Business students must broaden their education by gaining skills and global competencies through engagement in learning practices outside the classroom. Therefore, it is a requirement for all business majors to complete at least one of the following three immersion experiences prior to graduation.

These immersion experiences offer valuable insight gained through field work and everyday assignments. This allows students to put that knowledge to test. Ultimately, allowing students to hone their business acumen while developing communication, leadership, and time management skills.
