ThermoCall TC4 Advanced - the most powerful model of a line of ThermoCall TC4 devices which are intended for remote control of the autonomous heating system of production Webasto at any distance within a covering of a cellular communication network. The main unit of the device is installed in the car and connects to the independent heater a cable. Is it possible, using the Smartemp 3.0 to start the heater and keep it on for the entire night. On and off cycling during the night drains my batteries completely because of the glow plug energy consumption. I currently have a rheostat to control the unit
The Smartemp 3.0 is designed to work similar to a household thermostat. The heater will try to maintain the exact temperature set on the control. Therefore, it will also cycle unless it is so cold that the heater can never fully meet demand which will cause it to run continuously in an attempt to do so.
However, reading the whole manual throws up some interesting facts. My boat is installed with 2 radiators, both fitted with TRVs. The Webasto manual advises against that so I have fully opened them. This then leads to how to control the temperature. At the moment I just turn it off when it gets too hot - any better ideas out there?
However, not all heaters seem to be the same, I sent one of my designs to a forum member in NZ and he couldn't ever get it to work with his Z, though it starts D3 thermotop Z with no problem, based on three units that I've tried.
Please note; this multi controller might not be suitable for some OE applications ie if the vehicle heater was installed at factory level.

Im planning new project again. The idea is to build remote control (phone app) for fuel-burning auxiliary heater for my Volvo V50 -08. The thing is the heater is only controllable through dash menus, (on/off and two timers) via can bus. So there's no simple "apply voltage to wireX solution.
I guess the most feasible way to get phone app control is to use free app from webasto that's intended to be used with their own gsm control Thermo call TC4. It just send's SMS commands to desired phone number for control. All the commands can be found from the manual: -content/uploads/2017/11/car-technical-documentation-thermo-call-4.pdf
Well, since the safety seems to be greatest issue here lets just say i'm going to power all this through NC-relay controlled by 15 pole from "ignition lock" so no driving and CAN-messaging simultaneously. It's not needed for the project anyways..
Did you ever come to a conclusion. I am also thinking about getting a AutoPi for my VW T5 with a Webasto Heater. But only if I would be able to control the heater remotely (otherwise I would get another solution that is made for remotely starting the heater).
Very simple start/stop control from AutoPi to Webasto cad be done via simple relay contact. But I prefer data bus based so I can also get temperature data etc. from Webasto so I can see the heater is operating.
The unit comes with a longer fuel line, universal controller harness and mounting bracket. The Thermo Top Evo also operates at a higher maximum combustion air temperature that allows it to be mounted in more locations within the engine compartment, Webasto claimed.
