Hi Kieran,

Yes, you are absolutely correct, we don't want to duplicate the backend
stores for many use cases. However, we are working on building an ultra
lightweight version that will not be dependant on having any other system
running. We certainly plan on using OpenMRS and DHIS as back-ends for some
use cases.

Right now, Andy is focused on making sure our deployment of whatever group
of technologies we end up with is as pain-free as possible (as we all know,
this is a huge barrier to adoption for open source projects).

He's hoping to have something demo-able with Maven soon, and then we can
discuss next steps from there.

We are still finalizing our pilot sites and use case, but we're hoping to
keep a running list here.

Would you mind adding your use case there?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi Jon,

Please do add me to the list - both kie...@cell-life.org.za and
kieran....@gmail.com. Thanks.

Re: GATHER itself - have you considered any re-use of preexisting
systems such as OpenMRS (could it be altered to a more generic
Entity-Attribute-Value architecture?) or even DHIS-2.0, which I am
looking at today. It has indicators, data exports, reports etc, but
perhaps not as good usability as OpenMRS. I ask as they both have some
very valuable features (data dictionaries, custom data analysis/export)
which would take some time to make from scratch.

Just fyi, we here at cell-life would like to get at least a 'prototype'
of a generic server going by mid April - and I was thinking of
customizing DHIS / OpenMRS to handle this generic data. However we
obviously don't want to be duplicating effort that is happening elsewhere.

Do let me know your thoughts,
Best wishes,
Kieran
