InSingle-player mode, the player has the main goal of reaching the finish pad of the level as fast as possible. Obstacles will hinder the player's progress, but powerups are also provided to help the player finish the level. There are sixty single player levels that can be completed by the player. They are divided into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels, each category containing twenty levels. Many of these levels (such as 'Survival of the Fittest', 'Natural Selection', and 'Ordeal') are recycled from Marble Blast Gold.

There is a par time set for each of the levels, and if the player beats the level under par time, the player will earn achievements based on how many levels they successfully completed under par time. Additionally, if the player has Xbox Live connection, their best time will show on a leaderboard where players worldwide can compare their best times. The leaderboard is updated whenever a player gets a new record time.

The game makes use of two new power-ups:Ultra blast - instantly increases the blast meter, and adds more power. The player can even perform a double jump.Mega marble - makes the marble bigger, allowing it to knock other marbles off-course. The power-up lasts at least 10 seconds before the marble shrinks back to normal.

Another added feature is the introduction of Easter Eggs, which are found in hidden locations in 20 of the game's 60 levels. After finding one Easter Egg, the game will award the achievement "Egg Seeker". After finding all 20 Easter Eggs, the game will award the "Egg Basket" achievement.

Multiplayer mode contains 20 levels and supports up to 8 simultaneous players. There is only one mode which consists of collecting gems within a certain time limit (three to six minutes), which depends on the level. After a group of 2-6 gems are collected entirely, another set of gems appear elsewhere on the board. Players race to these gems and use power-ups to navigate across the level quicker and interfere with other players.

There are three types of gems: red, yellow, and blue. Red gems are worth one point, while yellows are worth two and blues are worth five. Most likely, blue and yellow gems are much harder to get than the red ones. The player at the end of the time limit with the most points wins. Players can change their marble's appearance by choosing from a variety of patterns and pictures in the main menu, such as a globe marble or a tiger marble as well as adding several different effects to use online. Ranked matches and player matches are supported along with an overall multiplayer leaderboard for ranked and player matches. Users can create a game or join one and filter parameters such as level, players, and gamer zone. Private games are also supported.

In December 2007, Marble Blast Ultra had its price lowered. In 2008, three new achievements totaling 50 gamerscore were added to Marble Blast Ultra on Xbox.com.[2] Three DLC packs were released for the game during that year. On October 29, a DLC pack contained a new multiplayer level "Marble It Up". In December, the Marble-Fu map pack and Agoraphobia pack were released.[2] Each pack contained five maps and was available on InstantAction prior to their Xbox 360 release.

Marble Blast Ultra was delisted from the Xbox Live Arcade service in February 2011. Despite this, a Microsoft Windows version was released later that year. GarageGames, now a subsidiary of Graham Software Development, retained the rights to the Torque Engine which powers Marble Blast Ultra, but not the rights to the game. Game rights are property of InstantAction Holdings. GarageGames CEO Eric Preisz said that it was "unlikely" that the studio would reacquire the rights to its games.[3]

The members of the development team later worked on a spiritual successor, Marble It Up!, which was released for the Nintendo Switch in September 2018[4] and subsequently for Windows[5] and Apple Arcade.[6] In July 6, 2023, an announcement of Marble It Up! Ultra was made, containing new single-player levels and new features such as online multiplayer modes. It was released for the Nintendo Switch, Steam (both as a free update for owners of the original Marble It Up! game), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Epic Games Store on August 17, 2023.[7][8][9]

Marble Blast Ultra is probably best described as Super Monkey Ball without the personality. You're given 60 levels that are broken up into three different difficulty tiers, and your main goal is to roll your marble to the exit as quickly as possible. Occasionally you'll also have to collect gems before getting out. The game has its strengths and occasionally gets quite devious in difficulty, but it lacks the addictive qualities that most puzzle games require.

Marble Blast Ultra puts you in control of a marble. The analog stick rolls the marble around. Plus, there's a jump button, a blast that can be used for higher jumps if you can get the timing down, and a series of power-ups, like superjumps, speed boosts, and so on. The single-player mode is a race against the clock.

The difficulty in Marble Blast Ultra ramps up reasonably well. You'll spend the first few levels doing tutorial-related tasks, and the first 20 levels that make up the beginner set are quite easy. Intermediate properly raises the difficulty through its 20 levels, and the final third difficulty level isn't lying--it's advanced. You can jump around and play any of the 60 levels right away, but really, you're probably going to want to take them on in order. In addition to just finishing them, each level has a par time for you to beat. Beating the par times on every level in each of the three difficulty sets is one of the game's achievements. Your time translates to a rating, which is uploaded to the online leaderboards. The game has scoreboards for each level, as well as one for its multiplayer rankings.

The multiplayer in Marble Blast Ultra seems a little forced. The game supports up to eight players and contains 10 different maps, but it remains the same across all the maps. Gems spawn into the map in groups, so you have to race over to the group and attempt to collect all the gems before the other players do. Once a group is gone, another batch spawns in somewhere else, and this keeps up until time has expired. The blast move can be used to push the other marbles around. It's functional, but the lack of variety prevents it from being fun for long. Some additional modes probably would have made it more interesting, overall.

Graphically, Marble Blast Ultra has a good, but also somewhat generic, look to it. The only real bits of flavor in the visuals are the different marble types you can choose from. The clear, gelatinous marbles look pretty cool. The environments are blocky and basic, which is fine, but this look is maintained across all of the game's levels, aside from some color changes here and there. The sound side of things is a bit of a letdown, with one track of electronic music that will have you fumbling for the custom soundtrack controls in no time. The effects are passable, though it might have been neat to have a different rolling sound effect for the different marbles. Hearing the sound of the marble rolling on the wood when it looks like soft, squishy jelly isn't a good fit.

If you like games that require a steady hand and some occasional puzzle-solving skills, Marble Blast Ultra does both of these things. But its weak multiplayer and lack of variety make the 800-point price a little tough to justify. You might see everything you need to of this game just by playing the free demo.

Marble BlastORIGINMarble Blast UltraMAP CREATOR(S)C7H7N3O2STHEMEMarble Blast Ultra - Tim TranceSIZESmallSURVIVABILITY5/10DARKNESS LVL2/10SPECIAL ATTRIBUTESN/AMarble blast is a Map in Midnight Horrors. This map is based off of beginner level 17: "Ramp Matrix" from Marble Blast Ultra, although the layout is slightly different.

Marble Blast takes place on a bendy, green-tiled map that is presumably built for the purpose of throwing marbles onto. On each tile, there is a design that consists of a green background with a slightly darker green ring and dot in the center. There are several square-shaped tile platforms (made of 16 tiles each) at varying heights that are linked by tiled slopes that go from one height to another. The Red Circle of Oculus appears at the lowest platform, which is a rectangular 12x4 platform made of tiles.

While the vertical height does grant the advantage of verticality, as well as easily being out of trouble for most Line of Sight killers, such as Stare Joel or Aimbotter, and the lack of visible walls (while invisible walls are still present to prevent players from falling) makes Blackout and Fog rounds significantly easier, this map is quite small, meaning faster killers such as The Average MH Chaser or Joel can easily catch up to players and quickly clean out servers. Also, most noclip killers such as Branches or HER take vertical height into account, giving players an opportunity to trap them in the air while circling around the map. Finally, physics-based killers such as Sphere Friend or Bowling Ball may struggle to climb up the slopes, yielding an almost-guaranteed survival.

In Marble Blast Ultra, you are a marble [No Brainer -Ed]. You roll around various dangerous environments to collect gems and then to reach the end point to move on to the next level. Marble Blast features sixty different levels: Twenty beginner courses, twenty intermediate courses and twenty advanced courses. Normal players should be able to blast through the beginner courses, and then most of the intermediate courses. After that the game can get really tough for some players, as the obstacles can be a little daunting.
