These selections are expanded tracks from the incidental, ambient,
opening and closing music I created for the Irony Coast 48 Hour Film
production of "Double Speak." You can find Double Speak on
Youtube.com. Just searc for "48 hour film, houston, 2008," and it
should be there for your viewing pleasure.
I wrote several small pieces for the production while we were filming
on June 7th, however, only one small guitar segment survived to be
included in the final film. When I got to the editing session, I
realized everything I wrote the prior day just didn't match the theme
of the film I was seeing on the big screen. I desparetly sat at my
laptop and poured over every sound file I had and finally came up with
the right mix just as the director was saying "I need that score
now!" If I'd taken any more time composing then the movie would have
gone to print without a score.
The first piece is called Going Up, and it is adapted from the Opening
theme for the film- of which you may only hear 10 seconds as you
watch.
The second piece is called "Power Center" and is the theme that you
hear when Hope enters the campaing call center.
The last peice is called "Whispers of the Truth." It was the only
fully scored peice that I had time to create for the film and it comes
at the very end. I wanted it to contain the sound of whispered voices
echoing in and out, but not intelligible. I think I made it work.
Long story short- Double Speak was delivered to the judging committee
nine minutes late, so we were not eligible for any of the major awards
(including best music.) I guess that is one reason I wanted to go back
and expand these tracks into fully produced pieces so they would have
a chance to speak for themselves :)
I hope you enjoy what you hear.
