Well my goal with this challenge was to make a dress for my son's graduation on Sunday, 5/27/12. I have known this date for quite a while and knew I wanted to do this. Did it keep me from procrastinating? nope, not at all!
So 5/20, I cut out the fabric... and it sits... until 5/26 at 9pm.... after I had been at his graduation party all day! I start to sew, it comes together pretty good. New techniques include darts and a lined bodice... not a problem. The bodice fits well. The bodice comes right below the boob line and then is a simple skirt. Sure it is. I put it together and attach to bodice. Try it on before putting in the scary zipper. Bodice.. looks good, the rest, looks like it was made for someone who weighs about 300 lbs more than me! By this time it is 1am day of graduation, I call it quits, could not even see straight or function let alone alter a dress pattern.
Get up at 8, go out to breakfast.. (have to be at the Baccualaurette at 1pm) get home about 10, look at the dress... UGH!!!! Grab some material from the stash and made a wrap skirt, wore it with a top I had bought and called it good!! New techniques: never made a wrap skirt and made my own patter. Other techniques: used interfacing at the waist line, added a piece of elastic at the back for a snugger fit, and added a hidden button where the wrap "ends" and then 3 buttons where it begins. Oh and I did think ahead, instead of hemming the skirt, I made the bottom edge the selvage! I do have grad photos so will be blogging about it later!
The dress meanwhile, is still laying across my table!
I am SOOOOO glad to see others finishing items at the last minute!!!
