Subject: Nancy's Garden- new opportunity for schools and youth

Greetings Volunteers and Community Members,

We are excited to let you know about a new opportunity for Montana schools and youth - Nancy’s Garden!  This is the newest feature of the Governor and First Lady’s Math & Science Initiative.  The First Lady wants to help create the next generation of gardeners growing their own food in Montana.  She seeks to get young students excited about studying math and science, engaged in healthy eating, and interested in future careers in our state.

Nancy’s Garden can provide a gardening experience for every 4th grade student across the state by supplying grow boxes, seeds, and a teacher’s guide for each classroom. The grow boxes were made by the Montana Correctional Enterprises and Eleanor’s Garden, a new business in Montana.  Also provided in the teacher’s guide are resources and ideas on how to connect their community to the classroom garden with volunteers.

All schools across the state have been notified of this opportunity and will be sending their requests for Nancy’s Garden boxes to the Governor’s Office.  Your local school has been asked to respond to the invitation to participate in Nancy’s Garden, by Friday, March 18th.  If you or your constituents are currently volunteering in the schools, please let your local school know that you would be willing to assist students and the classroom teacher with the Nancy’s Garden experience.

Nancy’s Garden seeks to Grow Minds, Grow Healthy Bodies, and Grow Gardens!  We hope you will join with the educators in your community to offer this exciting opportunity to students in your community.  If you would like to learn more, please visit mathscience.mt.gov or contact Anna Green in the Governor’s Office at 406.444.3111 or agr...@mt.gov.

Thank you for your interest and thank you for volunteering!
