Workshop: Gardening 101

This coming Wednesday, June 24th,  we will be having our first monthly
workshop.  It will be led by Ryan, the Hull House gardener, and start
at noon like our normal meetings. It will be a hands-on introduction
to the basics of gardening. We'll be putting together planters,
planting vegetables, and getting a tour of the awesome garden Ryan has
built for the Hull House.

This is open to everyone (not just members of the club) so please let
other people know about it. See you all on Wednesday!

Allen and gardeners- 1. do we still need to be watering the plot by the student center? 2. We need a different mesh solution for the cucumbers- they are growing out of the cage. 3. Our cabbages and kale were all eaten by bunnies but Ryan has a few more for us- we will need cages for that too. 4. We need to space out the melons- they are too close together. 5. I made a wagon- feel free to use it to transport water- it is in the shed.  I filled up one of the storage bins with water, wheeled it over, and then dunked the watering can. Yes. I know it's kind of a pain because it's so far out there, but
right now it's the only student run garden on campus. If we can't
prove that we can take care of that, how will we convince the
administration to give us more space to grow what we actually want?

Damn. Adela is going to be bringing chicken wire to the meeting. I
think she'll be coming latish, so we'll probably put the stakes in
before she gets there and then she and whoever is still around can put
it around all the plants.

Do you mean pumpkins? Either way, we can do it today, after the workshop.

The wagon is awesome! It looks beautiful, and makes watering at UIC
Seed and the eco-campus plot sooo much easier. Thank you so much for
building that for us. I noticed while I was watering yesterday, that
walking around with that cart full of water draws a lot of looks. We
should put some 'UIC Gardening Club' signs on it or something.
