Hi all,

I am soon to be leaving London - migrating up North, Manchester to be precise.

So, the Garden of Aden needs someone else to volunteer to take on some leadership. Mainly checking people want plots or assigning plots to new people.

I've not been able to take much part for the last 2 years as I now have way to many children to do much else now! Ideally someone who is actively using the space a lot.

Please speak up if you're interested! It would be a real shame if the space became neglected :(

Hi rob,

I'm so sorry to see you guys leave.... but the reason for leaving is fab!

I can do it if you want? And if the others are ok with it?

Hey Rob
The space IS neglected, especially since Esra has backed off..
I understand that people are busy and times certainly are challenging all of us yet I must say (being together with my brother one of the only people actually living on the estate and spending a lot of time in the green back of Aden Lodge, that
I hardly ever see anyone there doing any kind of gardening....nor communally hanging out, which is a shame as it could be much more used like a little park bringing people together😜❤️😜

therefore I have recently decided to actively search for the right passionate gardening team to not let this amazing project going to waste...
Especially as a few of the plots def are NOT attended to at all

I have a few people in mind to take that up and would also suggest that people who apparently have an plot could make a firm re-evaluation whether they really want to keep their plot as I know there are many people on various allotments waiting lists who would actually love to put down the work and come together also more as a community...

I guess there is no rush here as planting season is mostly over this year ( even though there are planting ways for the winter...)

What I would suggest:
1.Each one of us getting clear on whether we keep our plot ( which plot  is it exactly) and even you could all think about sharing your plot with friends and family, pooling responsibility and work and def more fun!
2. Scan your own environments for that passionate gardener who would love to come on board, as really we need some truly inspired green hand people to get this going again
🌴🌳🌲🎋🍃🌿🌼🌹🌹

On a personal note I wanted to thank you Rob for the work you have been doing over the years and wish you a wonderful transition into ur new life up North 🌞

Blessings to all of you
Mona

Mona - I completely agree re: the space not getting the attention it deserves - I really should have been doing more but just haven't had the time (I'm not even using my plot). Proper allotment societies tend to be quite ruthless on making sure people are taking care of their plots. Don't think you need to be that brutal but all existing gardeners should either make a commitment to using their space or admitting it makes sense to let someone who will make better use of the space have a go as you say.

Josette/Mona - really great you're both keen! Don't think it needs to be just one person so suggest you get together to have a chat?

Re: allocation of existing plots - I've been using this spreadsheet to manage:

There is also the google group for managing this email list:

I've set you both up as managers on the group, but I think you will need a Gmail account to manage the group and for me to be able to edit the spreadsheet, so you will need to set one up.

Please let me know what you would like me to do to help :)

Rob

Agree with most of the points raised by Mona. The allotments and the garden have huge potential. Personally I think the whole area behind the block could work along the lines of similar sized community gardens such as  http://www.khwgarden.org.uk/ and http://oldengarden.org/ if we had the time and resources to organise it.

I think the second priority after assigning new plot holders should be to make some progress on the bin situation.  Though I have not used my plot this season, I have visited a few times and noticed that migrating rubbish from the bin area (razors, glass, other grim stuff) is still a menace and can put a downer on what should be a pleasant experience.  Hackney council need to be continually hassled about this if it is to improve.

As I have not used my plot this year I think ill give it up for a new holder but please keep me in the group - I would be keen to help with any future developments if there are any.

Good luck

Marco

Hi All,

I have no issue with Mona taking on the chair, thank you Mona!
I have been working on the plot this summer, mine is the strawberry in green house and the extended with the large Rhubarb plant in it.
I would like to keep my plot over winter and next summer at least please.

I have emptied the plot next to mine as it was not used and put sprouting broccoli on it for the winter growth. I'm also growing tomatoes against the wall on a rack in Rob's old plot. Both of these are not mine, so they can be taken any time by anyone else!

I have offered help to anyone to empty out their plot before this Summer, that offer still stands now. It might be a bit off putting to see how overgrown some of the plots are, especially for new starters.

Mona, would you like to work together to empty out the plots and give it a fresh start for the growing season next year?
My number is: 07970913844 I work full time and have two kids so availability is scarce...

x josette

Josette ( and everyone else😜)
I was very delighted to actually see you stepping up right away to take that chair position especially as I have no real interest in doing this anyway...just didn't respond straight away ....so big thank you to YOU for offering Josette

Yes emptying plots and planting for winter is a really good idea... Will connect with you soonish to arrange time then we can also talk about how to get those really passionate green handers in who actually love to start growing❤️🐛🌿🌳❤️

Hi Mona,

I have been around a few times and seen that work has been done clearing the plots.
Thank you for that!
I'm planning on hanging some notices to see if there is interest in taking a plot on?
But wondered (and hoped) that you already had some interest from Aden Lodge people?

I will take the last list of Rob, and work forward on that.
Is your plot still the one next to mine?

I've also spoken to Brian to order some topsoil and manure to fill out the plots, as they need some care.
I'll be getting on with that over the next few weeks.

Please let me know which plots are currently taken in your opinion and I will update the list and work on getting the others filled by interested gardeners!

Also, how do you feel about moving the water point to the corner, so we don't have to go through the waste of others to get to the water? I hope it might improve peoples interest, as I have had great difficulty last few years going there with the kids due to the waste issues.

I hope you're surviving the cold alright, and hope to catch up soon.

Josette

Hi Josette
I like all of your suggestions....
Especially the moving of the water as the waste issue has been my biggest concern...
Yes mine is the 2nd one of the first 8 if you count from the middle path dividing the older from the newer allotments
I have one person interested who is not from the estate and potentially another... however the flyer idea is how I got the thing initially going back in the days so that's 🤙🏽
Especially if you also hang them up in the surrounding Aden grove/Springdale road
Esra would be the best person to ask in regards to a lot of the allotment related issues, we kept missing each other but I know he is still doing Mist of the work...
Let me know When you next coming, will aim for being there Josette

Blessing to you through the cold

Hi Everyone!

Can you please confirm with me by the 20th of March if you will be using your plot this year?
I will otherwise re-allocate the spaces to others interested.

I am getting topsoil and manure this weekend and will be at the plots during the afternoon to spruce them up and get them ready for the new season.
I will only tend to the plots that look neglected!

Flyers will be going out in the neighbourhood and on the estate to generate interest for the space.

Looking forward to seeing you over the Season!

Josette (07970913844)

Hi Josette,

I'd like to give this one last go before I give up, and hopefully now that my kids are a bit older and in nursery and school, I'll have more time to keep things alive.  I'm in plot 3 (third from the end wall, with little stepping stones in it).

Thanks
Fiona

Hell everyone

I hope you all well and doing fine. I went to the patches other day and noticed a green house, see the picture below, in the middle of my patch. Can I ask the person it belong to kindly move it please.  It in the way and preventing me to do anything at all with the patche. Also someone has emptied their BBQ sashes on to my patch. It’s very disrespectful.

Please can you kindly remove it.

Thank you

Dear all,

I'm not part of the group anymore since moving to Brighton/hove last year.
I'm sorry to hear of some issues Behice.
There is a WhatsApp group for the plots. Please can you contact Victoria and give her your number so she can add you?
She also lives in Aden Lodge.

Best regards, josette
