extremely slow

I am testing out the Gantry framework on a client site with the Grunge
theme.

Every time I refresh the page it takes 10 to 20 seconds to load.

I'm not using any cache yet since I am still making changes.
Regardless, it should take that long to load the first time someone
visits the site.

I'm not keen on becoming a member if the Gantry themes load this slow.

Did anyone else run into this problem and find a solution?

Jim, Gantry should not cause anything like that. Just look at the RocketTheme demos:

We have 100s of demos, Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, phpBB3, Magento all running on a single demo machine. Sure caching is on, and that helps but it shouldn't make seconds of difference.

I would guess it's something related to your server setup or configuration. Are you running a PHP opcode cache like XCache, APC, or eAccelerator? Those can help a lot. Does your machine have enough memory?
