I'm having such a hard time adding the new version of Font Awesome 3.0 to gantry...

I tried installing the font files to:
/libraries/gantry/assets/jui/fonts

and adding whatever is missing to the less file: font-awesome.less
under: /libraries/gantry/assets/jui/less

but i ended up with broken icons and i really don't want to revert back to the old Font Awesome version..

Is there a clear tutorial on how to update FontAwesome in gantry ?

Regards,

David Goode

Hi there,

That is exactly how I did it and it works just fine. Several members have also done it this way without problems.

Those were done on RT themes. I will see if I can test the Gantry template in case there are any differences.

from the forums

hi all,

in order to get the new font awesome 3.2.1 support which has been included in gantry 4.1.15 to work in our previous templates you will have to edit the ../less/global.less file of your template.

find:
@import "jui/less/font-awesome.less";
and change to:
@import "jui/less/font-awesome/font-awesome.less";

please note that this wont automatically work for all of our older templates. it's a pretty dramatic change in format and each template will have to be individually tested and updated as needed.

kat :)

Hi Alex

You use  tutorial is too much files.

1. If you use $gantry->addStyle('font-awesome.min.css');   you need only this file no more. No less files.
2. You do not need scss files and folder. SCSS is another language to create css style using variables, mixins etc. - not supported in Gantry.

3. Ie7 files - you can use them but we need php condition:

if ($gantry->browser->name == 'ie' && $gantry->browser->shortver = 7 ) {$gantry->addStyle('font-awesome-ie7.css');}

without such code in Index.php or styledeclaration.php this file is not used at all.

4. Folders in templateDetails.xml file we create only if you want create installation of template file in future. During installation of template only folder from  templateDetails.xml will be created. For normal use there is need to create additional lines.

I hope this will help you and other Gantry user to simplify this tutorial.

Hi

Few remarks:

1.Gantry uses less standard but you instruct to add all of them into custom folder but use only css.

2. In such solutions we will have both css for FA 3 and FA 4. We can very easily remove styles for FA 3 but then icons in menu will not work.

3. you asked to to hard code to <head> sections. It will be deleted during next template update. It should be feature (or gizmo for WP) and use gantry functions:

$gantry->addLess or $gantry->addStyle  - it will be not  deleted during next actualization.

If you open folder libraries/gantry/assets/jui/fonts you will find there catalog font-awesome4. I believe very soon will be update to FA 4.

This is the simple solution for the user novice but this solution and not bug resolved the problem and the user can used the default class CSS of Gantry and the class CSS of Font Awesome without modified an other source code.
