Hi,

I've a clean install of Joomla 3 - everything works great.

I want to use (as a newbie) Gantry framework. So I decided to download and install Rocketlauncher (gantry-4.1.8-rocketlauncher_j30.zip).

When I install through extension manager, I see the message: "Installing file was successful."

But the framework, master template, plugins - nothing is actually installed.

Is this a known issue? Hoe can I install? Please help.

Thanks,
Colin

Colin,

Are you saying that you are designing a new site in Joomla! 3.0? I thought this was not a stable release and not recommended for use, except by developers?

I think I may have accidentally (I am also a newbie) installed this and want to know how to get my old version back.

Thanks, Donna

Hi Colin,

The Rocket Launcher includes Joomla so it is for a completely new install. Just set up a database as if setting up Joomla and go from there. You do not need Joomla set up first.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the early replies.

Didn't know that, but now I inspect the Zip I see what you mean.

If I install the bundle (f/work, template and plugins - although I do not see any plugins beyond 'system'). then everything is fine.

I only wanted to get sample data in to make manipulating the template easier. Any way to do that?

Also, is there a doc (rather than tp=1) showing all module positions. Can't find one.

Cheers,
Colin

Yes as David mentioned you only want to use the RocketLauncher if you don't already have Joomla installed as it is an all in one which includes Joomla, Gantry Framework, Gantry Template, Gantry Plugins and yes the Sample Data used in the Gantry Template Demo.

And by the way you often do want the bundle if it is a new install of the Gantry Framework as you will want the RokNavMenu and other plugins.

As for the Module Positions available in the Gantry Template you find those by clicking on the Demo link off the home page and then under the Features menu item is Module Positions... Here is the direct link...

Best,

Grant

Hi Grant,

Thanks so much for the reply. The positions doc and the various short vids - well, I'm starting to get my head around it now. Seems great. Still don't know what RokNavMenu is (!) or what other plugins are available. So if you have a minute.

Also, does Gantry support real-time AJAX field validation and, if not, any particular extensions you recommend?

Thanks chaps.

Glad you are starting to get a handle on it.

1st RokNavMenu is the menu extension that is standard in RocketTheme templates and of course the free Gantry template is one of them. You can use other menu's but I think RokNavMenu is a pretty powerful one and the one I tend to use.

As for Gantry supporting real-time AJAX field validation goes... I'm not sure I'd look at it that way. Gantry is simply a framework that sits on top of Joomla. So it's not really about what Gantry allows in this case. You can use AJAX if you want to or not but it really has nothing to do with Gantry.

Gantry is more like a framework that allows you to attach features to a template that is based on it. It's a grid system that has loads of logical positions 6 in each row. Well except for the Content Top - MainBody and Sidebars - Content Bottom section. If you don't use a row in Gantry to publish a module it simply collapses since it isn't being used. So it's really best to think of it as a really flexible scaffolding for your content that is also now responsive since they incorporated Twitters BootStrap Framework into it.

Any way I don't have a specific extension to point out but your best bet to finding one is go to the JED and search for one using different keywords that you think will give you what you want. Joomla Extension Directory is here... http://extensions.joomla.org/

I just had exactly the same problem; what we needed to download/install was

http://gantry-framework.googlecode.com/files/gantry-4.1.9-bundle.zip

since we already had joomla installed

Unpack the zip and upload via FTP. I think you're trying to install a zip with Joomla already on it, so it requires a clean install.
