College Bound

The Chicago Federation of Labor is now accepting applications for the William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS: The CFL Scholarship is now live! A total of 10 scholarships are awarded to high school seniors whose parents are union members. More info and how to apply available here>>

- Failing Grade -

Floorlayers Local 1185 are picketing at Mount Carmel High School for area standards against MP Flooring Solutions. We give a flunking grade when schools we support hire contractors that undercut the family-sustaining wages and benefits we fight so hard to protect.

- On the Job -

Union Carpenters with River City Construction are working on improvements to a water treatment plant in Jefferson City, MO. Our members were recently working on the concrete forms for the structure. Great work!

- Home Sweet Home -

On an old ballfield, Union Carpenters are hard at work giving Chaminade Catholic prep school in St. Louis a new dormitory. The school (grades 6 – 12) provides housing for young men attending from out of town. The current dorm is nearly 70 years old and lacks many modern amenities that today’s teens might need to feel right at home.

- Best & Brightest -

Local 57 electricians judged and sponsored Lewis and Clark High School’s annual Wire Off competition. Top students will face others from around the country at the Skills USA contest. We were pleased to provide these winning prizes, plus pitch in to raise funds for sending students to the national tournament.

Giving Spirit: With support from Local 1839, Reps Shane Anselm and Joel Pikey have made this Christmas a lot brighter for students at B.W. Robinson School for the Severely Disabled in Rolla, MO. McCarthy Construction spearheaded the effort and was able, with assistance from others, to raise over $4,000 worth of holiday gifts for the kids.

Bon Voyage: Farewell to longtime Rep Larry Perinar of Local 174, who is retiring at the end of the year. Larry joined the Regional Council's staff as an organizer in 1994 and worked his way up through numerous leadership positions including co-lead of the MACRC's Residential 2.0 team. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement Brother!

Milestones: Floor installers Local 1185 recently held a pin presentation at their Annual 'Turkey' meeting. They had the honor of awarding a 70-year pin to Mr. John Partipilo and a 50-year pin to Mr. Tony Ortiz.

...and Carpenters Local 58's leadership, including President John Jarger, Vice President Alex Perez, and Financial Secretary Bill Murphy, had the honor of recognizing these longtime members at the local's pin party. We are very fortunate to count dedicated Union Brothers like these among our membership! Congrats to all!
