Subject: Membership Monday: A 50-Year Tradition ... and Illinois Early Voting Open

Soup's On

Local 174 keeps a 50-year tradition going strong with its annual Turtle Soup Dinner. Brother Ron Hibler (a 60-year member) and his culinary crew prepared 16 gallons of soup serving more than 100 members at their February meeting. Every year, Ron opens his shop in Minooka and preps the 13 vegetables needed for the stock. Stories are told, laughs are shared, and though they no longer catch the critters like they did in the old days (the turtle meat comes from a trusted butcher in Norway, Illinois) the spirit of the tradition hasn’t changed one bit. Thank you, Brother Ron, for reminding us that what makes our union strong isn’t just the work we do on the job, but the friends we make off the clock.

- Showpiece -

A handsome custom-made wood bar (manufactured by signatory contractor Woodbyrne) is the showpiece for WOW Food & Games in Fenton, MO. Bowling, karaoke, simulated golf, plus full restaurant/bar, will greet families looking for a fun night out when WOW opens this month. Thanks to ARCO, Titan, TJ Wies, FSI, Fenix, Negwer, Acoustical Ceilings, Goltherman & Sabo, and Presleys Glass for some solid work hours on this job.

- On The Move -

BJC Health has a new outpatient clinic coming to O’Fallon, MO. Impact Strategies, TJ Wies and Square UP have our guys staying busy and moving fast to meet the scheduled grand opening in August.

- Showing Up -

Fat Cat sighting at 833 W Randolph in Chicago's Fulton Market neighborhood. We're picketing for area standards against Glacier Construction's Reformation store. Contractors who undercut area standards need a little reformation themselves for the way they treat working families!

Early voting is now open in Illinois for the 2026 Primary Election. Visit the UBC's election center and enter your address to get a list of our endorsed candidates in your area, find voting locations & deadlines to cast your ballot, and request vote by mail ballots.

Refresher: Our Elk Grove training center hosted the Flooring Resources annual safety meeting. Thanks to Breanna and Stephanie from the Benefit Funds Office for giving a presentation on new enhanced union benefits, and to our instructors John Kiefer and Gabe Campos for tips on staying safe on the job. Members received two hours toward their INSTALL certification to keep their flooring and safety skills sharp.
