Subject: Membership Monday: Day of Fun at Council Picnics ... and Tradeswomen in NOLA

Sept. 30, 2024

Good Friends. Big Fun.

Family fun was the theme at council-sponsored picnics and health fairs in Kansas City, St. Louis and Lisle, Illinois. Carnival games, raffle prizes, face painting and a petting zoo guaranteed fun for kids of all ages. Be sure to join us again next year! (and don't miss our next event at the Cape Girardeau health fair on Oct. 12)

- Tradeswomen Conference -

This past weekend, thousands attended the annual Tradeswomen Build Nations conference in New Orleans and the Mid-America Carpenters were well represented. The sold-out event is the largest global gathering of women in the skilled trades, a place to network, learn leadership skills and develop recruitment strategies.

- Well Deserved -

We're proud to announce that our very own Director of Diversity was named a Crain's Chicago Business 2024 Notable Black Leader! Congratulations Jonathan Jones on this well deserved career milestone. The MACRC is fortunate to have you on our team!

In Truesdale, MO you’ll see lots of manpower at work on Elkhorn Ridge, a new subdivision from McBride and T.R. Hughes. The nearly 200-home community is going up fast thanks to Union Carpenters with Revolutionary Builders, River City Drywall and Henges Interiors.

- Craftmanship -

Congrats to Local 1185 apprentices Andrew Lapapa (Fish) and Nicholas Ruffino (GMC) for having completed and passed their schooling at Elk Grove Village. On their final week they completed a couple of special projects. Both designs were hand drawn and cut out of vinyl or linoleum all by hand. A great display of commitment to being professional flooring installers and proud members of MACRC Local 1185.

- Dream House -

Volunteers from Locals 237, 270 and 1889 partnered with Make-A-Wish for our new friend Tessa. Diagnosed with neuroblastoma, her wish was a new playhouse at her home in South Elgin. Signatory contractor Mid-Illinois Companies contacted Local 1889 Rep Derek Iwaniuk asking for help and we of course stepped up and got the job done. And it was Tessa's birthday the next day, so our members sang Happy Birthday! Thanks to all of our volunteers who made a special girl's wish come true.

Standout Students: We have many exceptional apprentices who excel on the job and in the classroom. We’d like to recognize these four, who were honored at our recent graduation ceremony in St. Louis for outstanding academic achievement during their training. Congrats to Trenton Kreder, Dillion Vance, Jacob Voss and Jacob Roth.

Making Noise: We're continuing our campaign across the St. Louis area to call out contractors that use out-of-town crews, pay substandard wages and drag down our communities. If we don't speak up, who will?!

Health Fairs

Thank you to all our Kansas City, Lisle, and St. Louis health fair attendees! From face painting to flu shots, and financial education to massages, our participants and their families were not disappointed. Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for all our event photos. Hope to see you all again next year!

Under supervision of floorlaying instructor Michael Eisenhauer, St. Louis apprentices created these awesome stenciled floors using three-layer, low tach vinyl. They’re affixed to concrete polished floors. More polishing classes (and cool logos) to come. Our next Carpenter Skill Advancement Program (CSAP) concrete polishing class is full, but look for additional classes soon.
