Subject: Membership Monday: Standing Strong at 100! ... and Retirees Appreciation

History & Heritage

This past week, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the MACRC headquarters building in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. Our regional council’s original four-story building has since been replaced but we’ve kept some of that centennial history in the new building, including the restored original ballroom. The one constant over these past 100 years has been the staying power of our council. We can all take a tremendous amount of pride in that!

- Volunteers -

Mid-America Carpenters volunteers went out Saturday with Rebuild Together Metro Chicago for Make a Difference Day. Our members installed grab bars, handrails and repaired stairs, doors and doorbells in 20 homes for senior citizens in the Chicagoland area. Thanks to every volunteer that donates their time each month for worthy causes. Union Carpenters build communities!

- Public Works -

Union Carpenters are building a new parking garage for the 18th and Vine neighborhood in Kansas City, MO. Members working for JE Dunn and Dunpar are working on the concrete decks and walls, and the framing. This structure will create about 500 parking spaces and it's being built near the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The city has invested about $400 million in the area in the form of building renovations and new construction.

- New School -

Reach Learning Center teaches special needs kids in the ever-growing Wentzville, MO school district. Our carpenters are moving fast in time for the school’s ribbon cutting coming up this month on their new, expanded campus. The kids will love their new home!

Fun-Raising: Over 200 people attended the 10th Annual Local 57 Mouse Races. We were able to donate $8,500 to the Jefferson County Foster Children’s Fund, bringing the total that Local 57 has donated to the JCFCF to nearly $60k over the years! We thank the locals, contractors and attendees who make our giving possible.

Appreciation: Our greatest strength is in all the men and women who came before, laying the foundation our union is built on today. Here's Local 662 retirees enjoying a day of appreciation in Freeburg, Illinois. Our sincere gratitude to our cherished retirees.
