Subject: Membership Monday: Help Us Save Job Corps ... and Safety Agreement Wins Praise

Step Up. Take Action.

Job Corps was established in 1964 as part of President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society initiatives to provide training programs for low-income youth. The Carpenters Union has been a proud partner with Job Corps, putting thousands of students on the path to good union jobs in the trades. Visit savejobcorps.com and tell your member of Congress to save Job Corps. Pausing this program will end opportunities for countless young men and women across America.

- Shameful -

Kansas City Union Carpenters are calling for an investigation into Kimley-Horn's business practices and eroding area standards. Workers employed by this company and its subcontractors, Evardy Construction LLC and Metro Interiors LLC, are being misclassified as independent contractors and being paid under the table with no taxes taken out of their checks. Follow the link below to send a pre-written email to company officials and local leaders that we demand an investigation:

- Man-Hours -

We’re logging lots of man-hours here at Irvington Place, a $43 million, five-story apartment complex in the St. Louis suburb of Olivette. More than 30 Union Carpenters with Titan and TJ Wies are moving fast to have the 205 units on the market next spring.

- Job Shadow -

Kansas City area high school students recently took part in a job shadow at the Carpenters Training Center. It lets students interested in our apprenticeship program learn some basic skills and get a taste of what this career can be like. Hiring managers from local contractors were also on hand to see these future members perform. Thanks to everyone who participated.

- Hands-On -

We met 2,800 high schoolers exploring construction careers during this two-day Build My Future expo in St. Charles, MO. Mother Nature gave us some rain delays but that didn’t dampen our mission to showcase all that professional carpentry offers to anyone looking for a great job, excellent pay and outstanding Union benefits.

Signing Day: Kansas City held its annual signing day recently with four millwrights and a carpenter taking part. Each signee brought along friends and family to the event including Wyatt Beatty, who signed with 4-Gen Construction. Wyatt is now a fifth-generation carpenter and was joined by his father, grandfather and a photo of his great-great grandfather Howard Hendricks, who retired out of Local 61. We're honored to welcome this talented group to the Carpenters.

Good Luck: Locals 1839 and 1596 have made a generous donation to help Four Rivers Career Center attend the Skills USA National Competition in Atlanta this summer. Hats off to our Rep Joel Pikey and to Rep Josh Brunkhorst, who has volunteered to tutor student Stephen Beard and sharpen his cabinet making skills in preparation for the big day! (Stephen is currently interning with signatory contractor CCS in Washington, MO.)
