Subject: Membership Monday: Workers' Memorial Day ... and Solar Man-Hours

Remembrance

Today is Workers’ Memorial Day, remembering those who have lost their lives on the job. Every year, more than 5,000 workers die from workplace injuries and today we take a moment to honor the fallen and renew our mission to make sure every jobsite is safe. Always check your surroundings and continue to make safety your #1 concern each and every day. We pray for our Brothers and Sisters whose lives were taken too soon.

- Union Built -

Two future NFL hall of famers are teaming up for a new steakhouse in downtown Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have gone in together to create 1587 Prime Steakhouse. Union Carpenters with JE Dunn and E&K are building the restaurant inside of the Loews Hotel in the heart of KC, and we thank these all-stars for supporting union labor.

- Millwrights -

Members of Millwrights Local 2158 & Local 1056 working for JP Cullen are seen here unloading BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) units for storage in Cedar Rapids. Eventually, these 81,500-pound units will be placed in southeast Iowa at the recently completed Wever Solar Farm. Nice work Brothers!

- Solar Manpower -

Carpenters with Alberici are building the infrastructure for the new 128 mw Cooks Mill Solar Project in Mattoon, IL. With over 232,000 solar panels to be installed for this utility scale project, the sheer scale requires careful execution by 80 highly skilled carpenters currently on site. When it comes to renewable infrastructure, union carpenters are the go-to workforce!

- Quick Work -

After a brutal winter, Union Carpenters with ARCO Construction are making impressive progress on The Jasper. It’s a 176-unit apartment complex ready to open just in time for summer in St. Peter’s, MO.

Farewell: St. Louis Training Coordinator Craig Hood is retiring after more than 30 years of service. In keeping with campus tradition, retiring staff members are honored with a final walk down the hall, greeted by a standing ovation from apprentices and colleagues. Enjoy your retirement, Craig, and thank you for the decades of dedication to the Carpenters.

New & Old: In recent weeks, the MACRC has brought in new apprentices and honored longtime members. Locals 1 & 272 had swearing-in ceremonies for their new apprentices, while Local 1027 honored 5, 10, and 20 year members with pins. We’re always proud to celebrate milestones in our MACRC family.

The Labor Alliance for Public Transit, a coalition of 30+ unions across northeastern Illinois, is asking riders of Metra, Pace, and CTA to share their stories. Public transit is important to our communities, and we know that many union members rely on it to get to and from work every day. If you use public transit, can you take 5 minutes to fill out this survey

All you need to do is tell us why public transit is important to you and improvements you would like to see (and upload a selfie along with your response.) Bonus points if your photo is at your regular public transit stop. Responses will be used on social media to support the Labor Alliance for Public Transportation’s efforts to pass United We Move legislation and fund the public transit system Chicagoland deserves!
