Subject: Membership Monday: National Apprenticeship Week ... and Sisters Give Back to Community

Nov. 18, 2024

Open House

This marks the 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week. We opened our doors and invited the public and local officials to tour our St. Louis campus and see for themselves what makes Carpenters training the best in our industry. (Thanks to St. Louis' mayor and county executive for honoring us with proclamations recognizing the important work of our instructors and staff.)

Join us for a virtual open house this Thursday to learn all that's available through the MACRC apprenticeship program.

- Flipping Jobs -

Thanks to reps from Local 1 and Local 1693 Millwrights, we’ve flipped some important nonunion jobsites in Illinois. At Freeman Warehouse in McCook, Local 1 has knocked Tuscany Construction off the job in favor of TCH Construction. And conveyor work at the Gotion Battery Factory in Manteno will now be done by our members, with up to 25 union millwrights permanently in place at the plant for the next four years! Great job Brothers protecting our work!

- Labor of Love -

Our Carpenter Sisters spent this weekend restoring a historic 19th century home (called Reeb House) in Florissant, MO. This labor of love has been a great chance to give back to a St. Louis community, while snagging the media's help promoting careers through the Carpenters Union and Missouri Women in Trades.

- Solid Wood -

In case you haven't heard, mass timber is taking off and Union Carpenters are leading the way in training and installation. Local 4 is on the call in Davenport, Iowa as the Vera French Mental Health Clinic is going up. Visitors and staff can rest assured their sturdy new clinic will stand for years to come.

- Steady Hands -

Skilled members of Local 1839 are putting in the work at the new Phelps ENT Health Center in Rolla, MO. With steady progress, Carpenters will have this new health center open for their community in no time! Nice work Brothers!

- Listen and Learn -

Millwright Local 1693 Apprentices got the chance to meet with contractors at last week's Cub Club meeting. This was a great opportunity to meet with employers to network and learn more about what they're looking for when they're hiring. Thanks to everyone who came out!

- Brainstorming -

Officials from the U.S. Dept. of Labor traveled to our St. Louis office this past week to help us crack down on shady contractors. Like us, the DOL is concerned about those who hire illegals, pay under the table and even engage in human trafficking to find the cheapest labor possible. It's costing all of us work and it needs to stop.

70 and Counting: A heartfelt congratulations to Monte Gillmann (pictured with Rep. Jeremy Greil) of Local 1770 for a remarkable 70 years of service to the Carpenters Union. Your lifelong devotion is much appreciated.

In Step: Union Carpenters were loud and proud supporting our servicemen & women at the Veteran's Day Parade in Edwardsville, Illinois. Local 664 marched to honor our veterans with our enormous 30 person flag. Thank you Brothers & Sisters for showing your support!
