Subject: Membership Monday: Congrats Apprentice Grads ... and Mass Timber Delivers Work Hours

Oct. 6, 2025

Congrats Grads:

On Friday night, more than 750 proud union members, families, and friends came together to celebrate 260 newly minted journeymen and women from the northern Illinois region at the MACRC’s 52nd annual Apprentice Graduation Dinner! These graduates represent the future of our union and they’re ready to build it.

Special thanks to the distinguished guests and speakers who joined us to honor their hard work and achievements as they begin the next chapter of their union careers. The list of speakers included EST Kevin McLaughlin, UBC Midwestern District VP Mike Kwiatkowski, UBC CITF Executive Director Bob Jacobson, MACRC Training Program Chairman Jerry Thiel, IL AFL-CIO President Tim Drea, CFL Secretary-Treasurer Don Villar, and MACRC Training Program Executive Director Craig Triplett.

Congratulations, Class of 2025! You’ve earned your place in the Brotherhood. The best is yet to come.

- Emerging Markets -

Union Carpenters working for McCown Gordon and Leavcon are building this mass timber structure for the Overland Park Farmers Market. The $34 million project to renovate the farmers market and Clock Tower Plaza is being driven by our hard-working members and signatory contractors. Across the country, Union Carpenters are actively involved in mass timber construction projects thanks to our ever-evolving training cirriculum.

- On the Job -

Anyone moving into the Olivette Townhomes in St. Louis can rest assured they’re getting expert craftsmanship. This crew from Titan Carpentry is moving fast on 40 new units hitting the market soon.

- Done Right, Onsite -

MACRC Carpenters with signatory contractor Chicago Hollow Metal are modifying doors onsite at an office buildout in downtown Chicago. No need to send out your doors for repair when you can call Chicago Hollow Metal!

- Driven to Succeed -

We’re driven to see that our valued signatory contractors and members have the tools they need to succeed. Family-owned Fischer & Frichtel has a proud history in the St Louis area since 1945. They’re turning out 150 homes a year and employ 65 Union Carpenters, including this group framing, siding and trimming homes in the Ryehill Manor subdivision. Our Reps recently visited this site and a 400-home subdivision called The Harvest in St. Charles County, where union carpenters from River City Drywall are hanging drywall. When our contractors thrive, we all win!

- Skills Test -

The Water Environment Federation's Technical Exhibition and Conference, the largest conference of its kind in North America, was held at McCormick Place this past week and MACRC carpenters got to put their considerable skills on display competing against teams from around the world. The MWRD’s Second City Sewer Crew, led by Local 13 Carpenter Dave Garza, once again put on a clinic showcasing their award-winning skills and training. Great job Brothers!
