Work Smart

Construction is one of the most potentially dangerous jobs out there. Of particular concern is the risk of falling from heights. The Mid-America Carpenters take part in National Safety Stand-Down Week by talking to members and hosting events at our training centers, reminding everyone of proper safety equipment and how to use it correctly. Today's construction sites are far less hazardous than they used to be thanks to better regulations and more attention to doing our jobs the right way.

- Safety Certified-

One of the things that sets the MACRC apart is our safety department. Congrats to Safety Director Al Jotautas & Local 10 member Bryant Drechsel (pictured), who recently passed the Construction Health Safety Technician exam after undergoing a week of training at the ITC in Las Vegas. Twenty-three members attended this rigorous training, and Jotautas said he was truly grateful for the guidance they received from the UBC's expert instructors. Assistant Safety Director Butch Sikora also has the CHST & STS-C, and Safety Representative JD Walton has the STS-C. We appreciate everything the safety department does day in and day out to keep our members safe on jobsites.

- Historic Rehab -

The 13-story Jefferson Arms building in downtown St. Louis is undergoing a complete overhaul. Our busy Carpenters are making way for upscale apartments and a hotel that will kick off a new chapter for this long-vacant historic gem. Jefferson Arms was originally built to accommodate visitors to the 1904 World’s Fair.

- Sports Clinic -

Local 4 Carpenters with Builders Sales and Service are currently installing framing and sheetrock for a new hospital project in Bettendorf, Iowa. One of many projects in the ever-developing "Bett-Plex". The $50 million sports medicine clinic and surgery center is centrally located in the sports complex.

- Best Trained -

MACRC pile drivers joined other pile drivers from around the Midwest to improve their skills at a week-long training session in Coloma, WI. The classroom sessions were followed by hands on field training involving several different real-world scenarios. Proud you're improving and refining your skills, Brothers!

- Reel 'Em In -

Another successful bass tournament is in the books. Thank you to our MACRC members and friends who have supported this great event at Lake of the Ozarks for so many years. We work hard but also play hard (while raising money for the scholarship fund.)

See you next year!

Happy Cinco de Mayo
