In the Line of Duty
When a retired union carpenter and his wife lost their son—Chicago Fire Department Captain David Meyer, who gave his life in the line of duty—members of the Carpenters Union stepped up to honor his legacy and support his parents. Donating their time and skills, they’ve rebuilt the front stairs of the couple’s home, making it safer and more accessible. This is what giving back means!
Thank you to EST McLaughlin for donating the materials and to Local 58 Reps Bill Murphy and Rob Piane, retiree Ian Main, and member Steve Fitzgerald for demonstrating that the true strength of our union is in how we care for our communities. Thanks also to Alderman Anthony Napolitano for stopping by to show his gratitude.
| | Union Carpenters working for Sircal Contracting, Modern Interiors and JD Bishop Construction are working on a massive expansion for Helias Catholic High School in Jefferson City, MO. The school is adding on to its gymnasium, expanding the parking lot, constructing a new performing arts center and creating a new baseball and softball complex. Our members are hanging metal studs/drywall, acoustical ceilings, and working on the framing. The construction is expected to wrap up in 2026. | | Homeowners living next to this creek in North St. Louis County won’t have to worry about property erosion anymore. Union Carpenters with Gershenson Construction are hard at work on the $8 million Hallstead Storm Channel to shore up the creek and improve water flow with 15-foot concrete walls and new stormwater drains. | | MACRC members set up more than 750 flags at the First Division Museum at Cantigny as part of our partnership with True Patriots Care. Thanks to Local 1889 Rep Joe Weber for organizing and all the volunteers from the MACRC and DuPage Building Trades who helped out. We will always do our part to honor our nation’s veterans. | |
Another successful Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce Fishing Derby is in the books thanks in part to the Local 58 crew who has been volunteering at this event for over 35 years! This year, there were over 13 tagged fish caught ranging from $25 to $300 in total prizes, with the largest fish being 26-1/2" long! In all, over 300 anglers and over a dozen business and non-profits attended.
Special thanks to the fishing derby Volunteer of the Year Local 58 Journeyman Greg Haertel for once again going above and beyond to make this event a success!

They've also done Wendy's locations in Farmington and Sullivan. With plenty of fast food options out there, no need to patronize these places. | | Off to the Races: The MACRC is always well-represented at the NASCAR Chicago Street Race series. Happy to see so many members coming out and talking to potential newcomers about the outstanding careers available in the Carpenters Union. | | | | |
