Spreading the Word

Government policies come and go but there’s no denying that solar is here to stay and it’s the future of America’s energy supply. Here in the Midwest, no one has done more to deliver that future than the Carpenters Union. Development Director Tony Janowski tells Crain’s Chicago Business how Union Carpenters and our contractors are leading the renewable energy industry in the installation of solar infrastructure. Tony is as knowledgeable as they come and a major asset to our members. Read more here>>

- Bud Billiken Parade-

MACRC members, friends and family were among the throngs of thousands on Sunday who turned out for the 96th annual Bud Billiken Parade, the largest of its kind in the U.S. The Bud Billiken Parade draws marching bands, dance teams, and dozens of elected officials from throughout the state to join in the celebration of Black culture, art and community just before the start of the school year. Thanks to the extended MACRC family who came out to march and to Local 1 Reps Myron Dent and Presley Garrett, Local 272 Rep Joe Willis and Local 1889 Rep Bennie Philippsen for organizing. Click HERE to see a behind-the-scenes video of our people getting ready for the parade. #UNIONSTRONG

- Partnerships -

We’re thrilled to see one of our newer contractors, Bombshell Construction, getting some good man-hours on this addition to the ambulance district headquarters in Union, MO. Our future is built on contractors, large and small, who do it right...with skilled union labor!

- First Responders -

Union Carpenters are building a new fire station in De Soto, KS across the street from the multi-billion-dollar Panasonic electric vehicle battery plant. Members working with 4Gen construction are taking care of the carpenter package on this McCown Gordon job. As De Soto expands, Union Carpenters will be there to facilitate the construction.

- Call Center -

We’re answering the call, building this new 911 emergency dispatch center in Lincoln County, MO. Freise Construction, TJ Wies, Titan, Gittemeier Foundations and Richardet Flooring are all joining forces to get the new home for vital government services up and running by year's end.

- Lunch Time -

Our Reps recently stopped by to see the progress at “Access South Cook," a new affordable housing development located in Park Forest, IL. This project includes new construction of 44 one and two-bedroom rentals. Signatory contractor Edon Construction framed out the buildings, with J&A ELITE completing the drywall and Counsel Construction handling the siding. Can't wait to see the completed job!

Stopping workplace hazards before they cause injury is the best way to keep us safe. OSHA’s Safe and Sound Week (August 11–17) is a nationwide campaign recognizing employers who create good safety culture. It also encourages all organizations to update their own programs to mitigate jobsite hazards and show that they make worker safety priority #1 each and every day.

Last Call: On our season finale of Built to Last: Across the Midwest solar energy is being powered by our skilled workforce; Heavy highway crews tackle the problem of aging infrastructure; Union Carpenters and their communities help the less fortunate by Rebuilding Together; and a new safari park in St. Louis will soon get animal lovers up close and personal with exotic wildlife.

Handy Scouts: Our Belleville training campus hosted local students for Scouting America Explorer Career Day. They got some hands-on experience hanging drywall, concrete formwork, MEWPS operation and some woodworking projects to take home. We thank the Southern Illinois Builders Association for their help exposing young minds to the carpentry trade.

Rewards: Donating our time and talents in the community pays off for MACRC members. Here’s Local 13 carpenter Michael Houlihan (pictured with Local 13 president Tommy Ryan) receiving a jacket he got through our new Volunteer Incentive Program. Every hour donated goes toward discounts at the Union Merch Store. Help out, get involved and earn some handsome swag!
