Meaning of the word "Ganeti"

Hello,

I wonder since I've read about Ganeti the first time, what the word "Ganeti" could mean. Does it have a meaning at all?

Unfortunately that question is not answered in the FAQ. Therefore I decided to ask in this group.

Hi!

The name "Ganeti" does not actually have a meaning. As one of the first team members of Ganeti put it "It was the best random name that we could come up with." :) It was chosen to be kind of unique in the sense of if you google for it, it will be the first hit, which it still is, this has nothing to do with that Google supports the project. :)

It is a good question, I'll add it to the FAQ.

Hi All,

I heard a talk from Tom Limoncelli a year or two ago where he said that the name "Ganeti" was chosen because it yielded zero hits on Google. There were several other contenders for a name which also had zero hits, but Ganeti sounded most like a word that could have previously existed.

So interestingly, Ganeti didn't have any generally known meaning before this project. And now it means kick-ass cluster management.
