I am trying to play on my create world with shaders because "OMG Beautiful" I am using Oculus with Rubidium+ 5-7 other performance mods to help. But for some reason it gets laggy as heck to stop motion basically LOL. Any suggestions... besides turning off shaders. I checked Flywheel but at the time creating this, it is still on 1.19.2 or 19.3.
Back to Shaders: If you know some good shaders and texturepacks for the new 1.20 pls let me know! I already searched a little bit in this subreddit and found people that use Rubidium + Oculus. I going to check this if there are current versions of them. This is new for me, im coming from those days with optifine and normal shaders, which was quite easy to install. I maybe past many new things since played the last time.
I am playing on a forge custom modpack that is for 1.20.1 Minecraft. I have tried adding Optifine, iris, rubium. After adding each one, the minecraft launcher crashes trying to load the mods. With out any shader mods it works fine. I dont understand why none of the options are working. I have tried everything I can think of to get them to work.
However, with Optifine you should adjust your lighting settings carefully because the KUDA shader is very dark at night. Anyway, you need the Minecraft Shader Mod, which is now part of Optifine. With this mod, you will be able to run a shader even with a bad computer and give your PC an FPS boost.
But now back from the technical requirements to the essential part of this review. A big advantage of the KUDA shaders is that you can easily customize them to perfectly suit your needs. However, a lot of settings are included and therefore you should play around a bit to find your own settings. Here you should mainly take care not to overtax your operating system because otherwise your graphics card will be grilled.
Really beautiful shaders, the lights are beautiful, the colors and the water is gorgeous. The only thing is that some blocks such as minerals, copper or others do not shine. In my opinion, the only improvement to do is to make them as bright as glass.
You might need to bind your vertex attribute id's to your shader, look at glGetAttribLocation. In your 4.0.0 version you have the layout statement telling it what will be in what id's. The program needs to know that "in_Position" is for attribute 0. It's possible that your implementation will default to using the first attribute as vertex coordinates and the 2nd as color. But it might not either. I'm not sure what the standards say about the default states, it might be up to the implementation or vary depending on what version your context is.
If your trying to make stuff run on multiple OpenGL versions. I recommend that you make a class that deals with all your shaders in one place. That way you can just call shaders.usePhong(), shaders.setPrimaryColor(glm::vec4(1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f));
Having the central control object will allow you to fall back to the old ways of doing things. usePhong could either change which uniform subroutine is set or change which shader is in use depending on what is supported.
Setting variables could either update the shared buffer object for all shaders or set the uniform variable on the shader (although you have to keep track of which shader will need that variable and if you need to resend that stuff when you swap to a different shader.).
You can also look at using #include in your GLSL sharers. It's not in core yet but is an ARB extension so it works on at least nvidia (not sure about AMD). If you don't have it on the platform you can have your shader loading code do a quick search and insert the code manually, if you do have it then you need to load the files into OpenGL's "named strings" in advance. That way you can write 1 bit of shader code and #include it either inside a routine function or a separate shader.
