Not all gamification is a Skinner Box, but because so much of it is, I
think this video is valuable to the discussion.

In this video Daniel Floyd gives a quick summary of what a Skinner Box
is, discusses it in the context of gaming, and then provides several
alternative ways to increase game immersion/participation.
I think gamification will be best served in the long run by avoiding
the Skinner Box, especially as the sole means of engaging the player.
I think working alternative engagement methods into gamification will
broaden the appeal and help to break gamification out of the FarmVille
stereotype.
Plug: Extra Credits is a great video blog about game design. It has
been one of my favorite things on the Internet since it first started
on YouTube in 2008.
