to Xbox 360 Repair Guide
Right then you have been hammering your Xbox 360 for the last 5 hours
with your best game of Halo 4 and all of a sudden you get some kind of
fault or xbox error code. First thing that goes through your mind is,
oh my god this is going to be expensive. This in fact is not
necessarily true.
Basically with any fault on your Xbox 360 you are going to get a
pattern of lights on the front of the console. You know the lights the
ones that you have probably not taken much notice of until now as they
are usually green. Well there are four lights in this ring of LED's.
As I said these under normal conditions will be green. With certain
faults these will in any number of sequences go red and certain
sequences will lead to xbox error codes.
OK first up nice and easy all four lights are red. This is just your
Xbox telling you that it can not detect an AV cable. So just check
your connection or try removing and refitting the AV cable. If all
else fails on this one and cleaning the cable does not fix the lights
then you are going to need a new cable.
One flashing red light always comes with an Xbox error code. It is a
hardware failure and the associated error code will tell you your
problem. For example E64 is a DVD drive error, E67 is a hard drive
error etc etc.
Two flashing lights is the xbox error for overheating, this can cause
the console to lock up or freeze for a certain amount of time. (try to
remember if the console locks up at a certain point of a game it is
more likely to be a problem with the game). Ok what do you do here,
easy let the console cool down and you should be ready to go again.
Try to prevent this from happening by making sure all the vents around
the xbox are clear. The xbox is on a firm base with airflow
underneath.
If you have three flashing sections on the ring of lights this is a
biggy. This means you have a hardware failure. Now there are a couple
of things you can try. First off the good old reboot. Try switching
the console off and then on again. If this doesn't fix the problem you
could be in a bit of trouble, especially if you are out of warranty
(which Microsoft has extended to 3 years by the way).
The problem here is that even if you are covered by the warranty you
are going to have to return the Xbox to Microsoft to be repaired and
this can take up to three months. If your out of warranty its also
going to cost you $150. ouch.
Are there any other options, well actually there are. You could repair
the xbox error yourself. No as hard as it may at first seem. You will
only need a few very basic tools a bit of patience and a good xbox
error repair guide. The guide being the most important part. You can
find these guides by searching the Internet. I tried a couple before I
found one that really helped me. Some come with video instruction
which is really helpful.
