Security in Virtual Worlds, 3D Webs, and Immersive Environments

Over the past few months, I have discussed many issues concerning
security, privacy, and other interesting topics as they apply to
Virtual Worlds and the 3D Web. Although many fascinating topics have
surfaced, I have found that two other concepts continually infuse
these stimulating discussions: interaction and immersive environments.

Interaction takes many forms, such as social interaction, interaction
with the virtual world, etc. and has been the focus of more than one
of the submitted chapters. As such, it deserves a larger role in this
book.
Expanding into Immersive Environments as well to include virtual
realms such as massively multiplayer [role-playing] online games (MMOs
and MMORPGs) is crucial as the use of these realms grows and research
must keep pace. These communities are rife with many of the security
challenges we need to address as more people move into these realms
for business and pleasure. Not addressing the multitude of immersive
environments would be detrimental.

As a result if these findings and multiple conversations with the
publisher, we are expanding the book's coverage to bring these areas
into the overall discussion. As a result, we need a few chapters in
these areas to round out the books' coverage as a whole. However,
that's not to say chapters on the original focus are still not
encouraged as well. Since we are opening up the window for a few more
submissions, we will consider these as well.
The book is still on track for publication in the Spring 2010. In
order to keep our schedule, new chapters will be fast-tracked through
the double-blind review process. Proposals and queries are still
encouraged well before the date, but are not required:

September 15: Full Chapters Due
October 30: Chapter Decisions
November 23: Final Chapters Due
Spring 2010: Book Published
