How large and taut is the chain that stretches from the boulder to the
other side?

Lathick looks at the chain, "Looks like it will support you if you
care to scamper across and slap that ferry man for overcharging for a
simple service!" "20gp for each of you? Only Vhalesha is worth a toll
like that! I wonder how deep the river is perhaps i could walk across
and engage the poor greedy sod to lower his price with the help of St.
Cuthbert of course." I look at the river to see if there is anyway to
gauge the depth (is it deeper than 10'?)

Each link is easily 2 inches in diameter, a very impressive chain
indeed. It seems very taunt, though further scrutiny reveles that it
does dip into the river, how far you cannot tell. While you can make
out the landing upon the east side, the chains twin end is not
apparent.

The river is easily 10 feet deep, and spring rains coupled with melt
from the Barrier Peaks makes this a formidable crossing. One might
make it across, but they would be swept miles down stream.

I am in no mood for a swim nor in need of a bath. Perhaps this may
wait till morning when nerves are more calmed in the daylight?

Daylight may be better but does not fill our bellies with venison off
the spit. Perhaps it is best to wait and see who demands so much coin
for the lords roads and ferries, and perhaps we will be granted some
company in the night from those we seek and have some fun with them.
Humph, venison would have been nice! Is there anybody else that needs
tending or healing before we retire if that is the plan??

Valen says "Luren make this note and stuff it in the bucket." He
says, "Celestians greetings. We seek passage across. Your fair is
to costly for us. We'll offer you a gold for each of us and blessing
from the Far Wanderer for those who treat well with travellers." "If
not we will make it so that none will cross here" "Send that to the
rogues on the other side" He then takes out his rope and grappling
hook. He locks the grapple onto the raft bindings and wraps the rope
around the boulder the chain is connected too. He then sits
comfortably and waits.

Dea says." Perhaps you wizards can create some fake gold to get them
to pull us across."

Lathick looks around to each of the party to see if anybody reacts to
his offer of healing and prepares and casts a spell on himself and
then another. (two minor healing 1 pt each)

O magnificent one, it is a minor healing... only 1 point per spell no
roll needed, see cantrip for priest minor healing.
