Hey everyone,
It saddens me to say this but I have to put the book club on indefinite hiatus. If anyone wishes to take the reigns from me and run the club, please contact me privately.
I started the game design book club at popular demand: I was already reading game design books and reviewing them on my blog, and people wanted the opportunity to read along. I thought that since I was doing the reading anyway, running the book club wouldn't add much work.
It turns out that the monthly deadlines and being beholden to others has an invisible cognitive load I wasn't expecting. My reading speed decreased drastically, and my reviews are backlogged. In January I changed the format from a popular vote to my pick of reading in the hopes that it would help motivate me, but it didn't work.
I won't be turning off the google group or prevent posting. One day I'd like to return to it, but only if I have the bandwidth to do it justice. I'll still be reading, albeit at a different pace, and posting about those readings to my blog and twitter.
I want to thank everyone who's participated so far and I hope those who've read along (the books or the discussions) have found value in them.
Thanks all again!
