a short hike

the  themes here are pretty parallel to celeste, climbing a mountain as act of self exploration and discovery, but it plays more like an old console collect-em-up adventure game. it’s super fun to get more powerful and be able to jump and fly about the whole island. the feeling of jumping and flying in this game is simply amazing. there is enough juice in here that will certainly leave an itch to come back and further explore this island and all its weird corners, but it doesn’t feel laden in nonsense amounts of side BS to do.

I really really loved this game. I was mentioning to Micah that its weird pixel aesthetics are almost ugly but in skirting that line end up being really beautiful and charming. I loved the weird Animal Crossing references and feels but with a distinct thing to do (your aunt's comment on the money rocks are very funny). Moving around is good and generally feels really good, even if there are a few times when diagonals can be a bit weird. I also think I will revisit it at some point just to poke at the bits and pieces I missed.

I loved the painter most of all.
