How to create .ASC files

Hello!

I'am just wondering if someone can point me to a good tutorial on how to create a .asc file for a certain place using the DEM file available on net.

Or can anybody point me to a site where i can download .asc file directly? or is there a such?

Hi

Usually (being) a commercial software (arcgis) should be able to do this. You can also check QGIS, I think it is also possible with QGIS.

For direct downloads, I am not aware. If you mention a place may be some in the group can point you to different sources.

Hi,

For a previous training session, Quang produced a presentation concerning the use of GIS and more particularly QGIS. In this presentation, there is one (or two, I don't remember) slides dealing with the translation of a geotiff file to an ASC file.

Note that in the next version of GAMA (1.7), it will be possible to load a geotiff file with GAMA.

Thank you very much for the reply.. I've been trying to use QGIS to create my .asc file. however i did not succeed in doing it.. I will try arcgis to create my .asc file.

By the way I'm doing the .asc file of Tuguegaro CIty, Cagayan here in the Philippines.
