any type_of operator?

Hi 

Just wondering if there is any operator that can tell me the type of a variable in question. for example:

int i;
write type_of(i) ; //results in int

I get "The primitive or action 'type_of' cannot be resolved (either

   it is not defined or not accessible)" when I use type_of() operator. Were you able to use it Srirama? I'm using 1.8 RC.
