Hi,

I was trying to install some new software from the help>install new software menu in gama interface (a GAMA SVN installation). And I get the error: Cannot complete the request. This installation has not been configured properly for software updates
I want to install some plugins (GIT, CSVEdit). On the other hand, I was able to install the plugins inside eclipse where I setup GAMA SVN, but still the plugins do not show up in GAMA interface. Please can somebody guide me to correct this ?

regards,
Srirama

Hi Srirama,

The update / install mechanism does not work with GAMA SVN. Or, I should say, it can work but setting it up is fairly complicated (you have to create a local update directory, etc.)

On the other hand, if you add the plugins to the product, and if GAMA is compatible with them, they should appear when you run the program (be sure to synchronize the product with the run configuration, though, or to run GAMA from the product directly).

I would be interested in hearing about other compatible plugins, by the way, so if you have some others you want to test, do not hesitate in enriching the contents of the wiki !

Cheers
Alexis

Hi Alexis,

Thanks for your response. I am not a computer scientist, so I do not understand them if you put them so directly. I usually do not meddle with the settings (in eclipse) just not to mess it up :) :) I would appreciate some more details on your comments. Thanks

I have three issues here:

1. On the other hand, if you add the plugins to the product, - what do you mean by this ? do you mean standalone version ? For standalone version, the plugins work.

2. (be sure to synchronize the product with the run configuration, though, or  - I also do not understand what you mean by this. I know synchronize , but what does it mean by run configuration

3. to run GAMA from the product directly. - lost again here

On SVN, I am running Eclipse3_8_2_release.product, with The product configuration is based on features.

many thanks
Srirama

Hi Srirama,

Sorry. My comments only concerned the SVN version (as the plugins should work in the standalone version).

There are two ways to achieve this with the SVN version:

1) In the navigator, create a new feature project (File > New… > Other… > Plug-in Development > Feature Project) and name it as you want (« MyPlugins »).
2) Click next and choose « Initialize from the plug-ins list »
3) Select all the required plugins that compose GIT, CVSEdit, in the list below.
4) Click Finish
5) Open the product you’re using ("gama1.6.1.feature_based_Eclipse3_8_2_release.product", right ?), go the Dependencies tab and click « Add… »
6) Select your new feature from the list
7) On the Overview tab, click on « Synchronize this configuration.. »
8) Then click on « Launch an Eclipse application »

Second way is more straightforward but I dont have these plugins installed so I dont know if it can work. It simply involves doing steps 5 to 8 (not the first ones) but, instead of selecting your new feature (which you havent created), you should select the features that contain GIT and CVSEdit (since they are updatable plugins, they should be based on features).

Is it clearer ?

Cheers
Alexis

Hi Alexis,

Thank you for the details. I was able to resolve it, though it took me a good time (as there were way too many projects in  gama installation and that particular diaglog of adding plugins, in dependencies, did not have a search box) . The procedure did not work with 1-8, but it worked wonderful with just 5-8. When I add all of them together (step 3), it did not work. If I have to add just one plugin (1-8) procedure works. So finally, I did one-by-one using steps 5-8.

Thank you again for your time :)

regards,
Srirama
