java byte code vs java source code

Hi,

If I have a python code for a certain task, I would like this code to be made into a GAMA plugin. As I read on the internet, there are some tools (jython) that can covert python to java byte code and a few argue that even java source code can be created. I am not a computer scientist, so I wonder if anyone has tried this approach. I am sort of ok with python coding so this would help me in many of my tasks if I can translate them to java (byte/source) plugin for GAMA.

Does GAMA need java byte code or source code ? or any would do ?
