Good mornin', Mobsters! Well, today's the day! Some final
instructions and reminders:
1. Be sure to bring WATER or plan to purchase some from one of the
many establishments along The Strand.. It's going to be hot today
and, altho prepared (EMS stand-by), we don't want anyone to suffer any
heat-related illness.
2. Plan to arrive NOT LATER THAN 1 P.M. in the general vicinity of
23rd Street and The Strand so that we can get some video footage of
the many "tourists" and "visitors" to the area.
3. Galveston Police Department will close 23rd Street and The Strand
to vehicular traffic at 1 PM in a one-block radius of the primary
intersection to ensure the safety of all.
4. Notice the AT&T 'bucket truck"....This will be Camera #1 The
dance will start FACING this camera with the cruise ship at your back.
5. When the 'coast is clear," and the "we've been waiting for a long
time" music starts, local school children will tumble/dance through
the intersection. Then, your dance team leaders, Amy, Lynette &
Casey, will enter the intersection to lead "the dance."
6. For the benefit of dancers in the park, along the sidewalk and in
the street farthest away from the intersection, another frequent dance
team leader will be positioned up in the park area (at the
corner). .
7. Everyone should be pretty spread out at the beginning and then
crowd closer and closer together and onto 23rd Street and into the
intersection as the dance progresses. The video images will be best
if the dance crowd 'builds' and people continue to join in from out of
the park and off the sidewalks. So don't feel like you have to
perform the whole routine.
8. Remember: no small group "demonstrations," costumes, or uniforms,
please. SMILE!
9. When the dance is over, try to avoid clapping (at least for just a
few seconds)..., simply step back into 'real life' and resume your
'normal' activity......this will be the hardest part:) Then, let the
celebration begin!
10. HAVE FUN, be safe, and know that you, too, have now become a part
of Galveston's rich and colorful history :)
With grateful and heartfelt appreciation for your enthusiasm, your
participation and, most of all, your love of Galveston :)
