We went to Boracay early this week to see the changes on the island, nine months after the closure.

We opted to fly in via Kalibo going, and Caticlan on the return. Both Airbus 320s - makes me feel better compared to turboprops due to more modern navigation equipment, more seats and cargo capacity.

The long trip and transfers between buses, boats and vans can be tiring, specially when you had to wake up early for the trip.

Boarding and disembarking ferry boats can be challenging when waves are strong and you have luggage with you (though porters are available to assist-expecting a tip though).

The government has restricted the number of tourists to the island - you have to show hotel reservation, lodging arrangement, etc., to be able to enter. at the Jetty port in Caticlan. For seamless travel, best to arrange transport through tour operators. Knowing Aklanon like Gayette does will help a lot.

There's still road widening and construction going on. Should be better next year.

We're looking forward to the planned bridge to be built by San Miguel (still subject to government approval at this point).
