Students, please read this message. I know you are very tired and need
to catch up with your studies, but the only way you can get justice for
yourselves is if you file a formal complaint with the D.C. Police. This
is much more serious and seriously. These people who assaulted you
deserve to go to jail, if that can be done. DPS got away with Dupree's
murder. They've been getting away with their misconduct of students for
too long. They went too far when they assaulted and injured you during
the protest. None of you deserved to be treated horribly like you did by
DPSs, PPDs, and rental cops. They must be stopped. elizabeth  aka

"Thank you so much for bringing up the issue of the DPS misconduct. Yes,
the situation is deplorable. I recorded the thirty names of individuals
who experienced assaults. Attempts to file their complaints with the DPS
were very complicated: one assaultee was referred to the Dean of Student
Affairs to file his complaint.

Because DPS is a private security entity, it is supervised byt the DC
police’s Security Officers Management Bureau (SOMB). SOMB has the
authority to regulate and revoke DPS’s license. However, SOMB has told
me directly that the assaulted individuals must contact SOMB directly
via its Deaf and Hard of Hearing Unit (DHHU) in order to initate a
complaint. When I met the Chief of SOMB on November 2, I was told that
only a single complaint was received directly from an assaultee,
received that day.

I understand that SOMB has received less than a handful of direct
complaints. This is the problem, since without any evidence and
testimony directly from the individuals, the SOMB’s hands are
virtually tied.

It would be most helpful if you could help spread the word that in order
for SOMB to take action, assaultees must contact them via the DHHU. DHHU
has two officers, Goldie Easterlin and Myron Jordan, who can be
contacted at DHHU...@yahoo.com, 202-698-0289, or 202-528-5218.

Thank you for your efforts to ensure a better and safer Gallaudet for
all. "
