Copper and Gold in Silver, photography by Dan Beers and Tim Renken
Hancock-The July exhibition in the Kerredge Gallery at the Copper Country Community Arts Center features two photographers, Dan Beers and Tim Renken. This exhibition will be on display July 9-31, 2026.

Artist Tim Renken states, "My gold mining photographs were made during several extended stays in Alaska. I originally traveled there in search of landscapes, but I soon found myself drawn even more strongly to abandoned mining sites and machinery. Mining played an important role in Alaska's history, and many of these ruins stand in remarkably beautiful settings. I was fascinated by the way broken equipment, collapsing buildings, and rusted metal could create a sense of rhythm, symmetry, and human presence within the vast landscape. The copper mining photographs were made during a trip to Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula with my mentor and friend Dan Beers. Bright summer sunlight created sharp contrasts among the shattered machinery, stone foundations, and weathered industrial remains."

Artist Dan Beers states, "The photographs that I am presenting in this show were taken last summer with my studio partner and good friend Tim Renken. My photo work in the Keweenaw started back in the early 1980s when I was here teaching photography to teens through the Summer Youth program at Michigan Tech. My time visiting the Keweenaw started with my parents and younger sister in 1973. The western half of the Upper Peninsula was my fathers territory working for the state of Michigan parks and recreation. For five years we would come up every summer for three or four weeks in a pop up camper. I have loved this place its people and its very unique landscape for most of my life."

Everyone is welcome to the opening reception on Thursday, July 9 from 6-7:30pm. Refreshments will be served. Copper and Gold in Silver will be on display July 9-31, 2026. The Kerredge Gallery is located in the Copper Country Community Arts Center at 126 Quincy Street in Hancock. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 11-6 and Saturday 10-2.
