Alexander Landerman – letterpress printed concert and event posters

Kerredge Gallery July 3-August 2, 2025

Opening Reception: Thursday, July 3rd 6-7:30

HANCOCK, MI – The Copper Country Community Arts Center presents Surface Noise,  an exhibition of vibrant letterpress printed concert and event posters by Indiana artist, Alexander Landerman.

Landerman states, “This series features hand printed posters produced mostly within the past year using traditional relief and letterpress techniques. Each color layer is created with a separate block and pass through the press. The prints were commissioned by touring bands, local events, and nonprofit organizations. As a printer and designer I ensure these groups—especially those within my community—have access to well-crafted and personal posters. All work for community partners and nonprofits is done without charge or at cost. This practice reflects a commitment to using my press as a tool for service and advocacy. The labor-intensive process emphasizes care, precision, and a belief in the value of physical print.”

Alexander Landerman completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2-Dimensional Art at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, and his Masters of Fine Art in Printmaking at Indiana University. His work is represented throughout the United States and internationally; he has participated in numerous residency programs such as the Jentel Artist Foundation and the Petrified Forest National Park Artist in Residence program. He is currently faculty at Indiana University where he runs the Letterpress Studio and continues to create work combining traditional drawing techniques with emerging digital practices and letterpress printing.
