Kerredge Gallery Exhibition: “I Don't Cook” fiber art by Lynn Anderson
Dates: April 8-May 3, 2025
Opening reception: Thursday, April 10 6-7:30

HANCOCK, MI – The Copper Country Community Arts Center's new exhibition in the Kerredge Gallery features a survey of fiber arts by Marquette artist, Lynn Anderson.

Lynn Anderson started exploring fiber arts when she retired from her career as a teacher and teacher-educator 20 years ago. “I Don't Cook” represents her journey which started with beadwork and went on to weaving, rug hooking, surface design including hand painting, marbling, block printing, and botanical printing. In the past several years she has focused on slow stitching which she feels is the medium and technique that rings most true to her inspiration and voice as a fiber artist. Slow stitching is a meditative practice that is portable and does not require any planning or special supplies. This hand stitching technique results in engagement with the materials and acceptance of imperfections and surprise outcomes. Lynn uses fabrics that she has dyed with various techniques to finish with stitching.

The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, April 10th from 6:00-7:30. The artist will give a brief talk about her work. Refreshments will be served. The following day on Friday, April 11th there will be a Stitch Circle from noon to 1:30. Everyone is welcome to participate with their own stitch projects or observe various techniques being done which includes slow stitch. Fabric, needle and threads will be available to those who would like to join in and try stitching. There is no fee to participate in this activity and learning opportunity.

The exhibition “I Don't Cook” runs April 8 through May 3, 2025. This exhibition and accompanying programs are supported in part by a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Copper Country Community Arts Center is located at 126 Quincy Street in Hancock. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 11-6 and Saturday 10-2.
