. Everything after that I have uploaded after the break. The pictures are there when you drill down but I dont know how to fix this! I have tried to rebuild the albums but it hasnt worked. I have put the gallery in to maintenance mode and ran all fixes but nothing has resolved it. I also added the .htaccess fix I found but it hasnt helped.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome.  It sounds like you've done all of the steps I would have recommended, so beyond manually getting in and checking the database, etc. I'm not sure where to go from there.  I'm assuming you've checked your var folder to confirm that the images are in fact there?  You might try moving the offending images somewhere else and do a rebuild and see if it helps.  I'd back up everything first.  I did manage to inspect the page (there seems to be something in your configuration blocking right clicks on most of the page) and while the paths are there and look reasonable, the one thing I noticed after the image names is that the modifier "?m=####" normally seen after every image path was "?m=0" on the missing images.  I'm not exactly sure what that is or what that does, but it's presumably related, either to the image being missing or it not showing up on the page.  Here's an example thumbnail block for the album.

<a href="/Xbox-One/Yellow-and-Black-Snakeskin-Steelers-Xbox-One-Controller">

                        <img class="g-thumbnail" src="/var/thumbs/Xbox%20One/Yellow%20and%20Black%20Snakeskin%20Steelers%20Xbox%20One%20Controller/.album.jpg?m=0" alt="Yellow and Black Snakeskin Steelers Xbox One Controller" width="200" height="133">          </a>

Hope that helps you figure out a few things to try.

That's exactly what I noticed as well! The images are indeed there so I will do a back up and then move them and try to rebuild. I noticed that the m return was 0 but I can't figure out how to resolve it.

It has to be a database issue as its a break at a specific place, or am I thinking incorrectly?!

Hi Jeremy,

If the files are actually on the specified path (double-check all spaces, etc. since there are a lot of %20s in the path that I thought Gallery typically replaced with dashes (-)) then it's a security problem.  If I right click on the missing image and say "open image in new tab" I get the

"Dang... Page not found!

Hey wait, you're not signed in yet!

Maybe the page exists, but is only visible to authorized users. Please sign in to find out."

for the link

http://gallery.morbidstix.com/var/resizes/Xbox%20One/Yellow%20and%20Black%20Snakeskin%20Steelers%20Xbox%20One%20Controller/Yellow%20and%20Black%20Snakeskin%20Steelers%20Xbox%20One%20Controller%209.JPG

but if I do that on one of the good images, I get the image as expected.  So the server isn't serving up the path.

Did you ever get this fixed?
I have the same issue. My website is https://www.singhindustrial.ca/gallery3/index.php

The thumbnails for the gallery folders are not showing, its just for the folders they are missing. When I click on the Fasteners folder (the image doesn't show, but it shows the word Fasteners), it does the same on the sub-folders, no image, but the actual images inside the folders are showing.

This just happened in the past few days.  If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Regards,
Shin

Shin,

I looked at your website -- and on when I get down to the lower level sub-albums the thumbnails for the product albums *are* showing up. For some reason the thumbnails for the Home Page  album and the first level product category albums are not displaying. And if I go to that first level product categories album below the Home Page, still no thumbnails showing on the categories. But if I click on one of the categories -- like Anchors -- I get to the next level of sub albums and there the thumbnails for those category albums DO DISPLAY.

This indicates that there is nothing "wrong" with your gallery installation. When you navigate to an album where it can find/see the images to be used for thumbnails they do display. That means that the Home Page top level album and the Product Categories sub- album just below it do not have any images available to be displayed as thumbnails. If you imported your gallery from an earlier version of Gallery into ver. 3.1.3 the links to the those imaged for the two top level albums may have been lost somehow. If that is what has happened, you will have to set new "album cover" images to be used as the thumbnails for the top level albums.

As a simple test, I would login as administrator and go down to the FASTENERS album then choose to "add photo" to the FASTENERS album. Any test image will do. Once the new image has been added to the FASTENERS album, then point to the new image and the tiny "gear wheel" icon which appears at the top right corner of the new image's thumbnail. A drop-down menu will appear -- click on "Choose as the album cover". This should set the new image as the thumbnail for the FASTENERS album. Go back up to the Home Page and the new image should now appear as the thumbnail "cover" on FASTENERS album.

I am already on 3.1.3, however, I tried adding the new image and making it the album cover, and it still doesn't show the thumbnail.
I didn't change anything recently that I can think of, which is the strange thing. It's been working great until the last couple days.

I see javascript errors, a theme or plugin is outdated:
Uncaught TypeError: $.browser is undefined
Can you switch themes to see if that fixes it? Or narrow down the issue to a specific module?

At this point I am mystified, since everything was working fine a few days ago. I'm wondering if some of your thumbnail images were  somehow deleted or corrupted in the Gallery /var/thumbs folder on your server? var/thumbs is where all thumbnails are stored after they are automatically created from an original file when it is first uploaded into Gallery. If you recall the exact name of at least one of the thumbnails that was showing up on your Home Page a few days ago, you could check in the /var/thumbs folder to see if a thumbnail image with that same name is still in there. Also... the new image you just uploaded as a test *should* have had its thumbnail automatically created and put in the var/thumbs folder as well. Is it in there?

The new thumbnails are showing up in the folder /var/thumbs, it is just not showing online – very strange

Every folder has an image <foldername>.jpg  which was until a few days ago, a blue background with the folder name in saffron text.  The images are in the folder, just not showing up as the folder image.

Shin,

This is very strange. The only next step I can think of is running the full suite of Maintenance Tasks in Gallery -- I don't know if you've been doing this on a regular basis, but every serious Gallery user should run them at least twice a year. They can clean up broken links, reindex all the images and check the database entries against the /var folder and attempt to repair any issues detected between the two. Here's a brief review of the procedure as a reminder to everyone:

1) Log-in as administrator. On  the admin menu which appears at the top of the home page go to "Admin" then down to "Maintenance"

2) Turn on Maintenance Mode with the link at the top of the Maintenance Page. Some of the tools do not require this, but just to be safe I always do everything in the Maintenance Page with Maintenance Mode turned on.

3) Run the "Maintenance Tasks" in the order they appear on the page. The fourth task, Update Translations, may return an error message which can be ignored because the repository for those translations no longer appears to be active. Let each task finish and display "complete" before proceeding to the next one.

4) The last task, called "Fix your Gallery " is the big one, but should only be run after the others have been completed. Depending on the number of images in your Gallery and many other factors, Fix Your Gallery can take a long time to run and complete -- and I mean long. Some people have reported that on their system it takes 4 or 5  hours or more. So, once you start it just let it run, even if it appears to be "stalled".

5) When it is finished, Fix your Gallery will display how many operations have been"completed successfully" out of the total operations it attempted to preform. It's not unusual or serious to see a result like "10254 / 10260 operations complete" -- meaning only 6 of the total number of 10260  operations attempted did not fully complete for some reason. But if you see that more than 10 or 12 operations did not complete, then you need to exit Maintenance, go back in and run all the tasks over again. Hopefully a second pass will show fewer operations not completed.

When done, log-out and check your Gallery to see if the problems have been cleaned up. Fingers crossed, it might work -- it has often done the trick for me.

JR ? any further suggestions?  Can I delete and reinstall gallery 3 - I know it'll be quite the task to re-upload the images (especially as I have a bunch of text that goes with each), but better that it works

Brad Dutton - any suggestions on how to narrow it down and find the outdated theme or plugin?
Note:  Changing themes did not work, neither did running maintenance.

Everything says 403 forbidden. Check the permissions on the var directory where all of the images are stored. Seems like the web server doesn't have access.

Permissions for the folder thumbnails are the same as the rest of the image thumbnails 0644 ( -rw-r--r-- ).
I tried them as 0755 (just to test it) and it stays the same.  The rest of the image thumbnails show, just not the thumbnail for the folder image.

Shin,

Here is some information from my 3 .1.3 site (where everything works as it should):

My "gallery home" folder is set to 0755
inside that home folder all of my sub-folders are set to 0755
in particular, my /var  folder -- where all images live -- is set to 0755

These are the permission settings I see in my /var folder:

NOTE that any sub-folders below the folders above also have permission of 0775 -- BUT every image in every folder has permission of 0644. If your folders are set like the this, then your server should be able to provide public to those folders and serve up the images in those folders as requested by the Gallery 3 code.

Once you have the permissions set this way, if the missing thumbnails still don't display, then I think there can be only one reason: The section of Gallery code responsible for displaying the selected image as the "album cover" for the folder is failing to do so. Why? You've tried using different themes with no solution, so the them is not  the cause.

One possibility: When you select an image to be the "album cover" the system takes that full-size image and makes a SPECIAL thumbnail of it and names the new file:

album.jpg

When the system tries to display the cover image for the album it looks for a file named album.jpg in that album. If it does not find album.jpg in that album folder then it displays no cover image -- which is what seems to be happening now. Maybe somehow all of the files named album.jpg have been removed from all of the album folders? Check to see in they are in there.

After all, the albums do display as on the page as containers and they do work -- the containers can be clicked to take the viewer to the album's contents. It's like there is simply no file called album.jpg file present for the system to display as the album cover.
